EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT UNDERWATER
Clinical researcher Rebecca Shaughnessy’s life has always been planned, ordered, controlled, logical. She isn’t a damsel and she doesn’t need a hero.
Ex- Army Ranger Max Lawrence’s life is a study in balancing. War and compassion, aggression and tenderness. He isn’t looking to be anyone’s hero, even if he does appreciate the trusty steed and the mighty sword stories.
But there is a monster from the past. A monster who simply takes. And this time it intends to take everything.
In every good fairy tale there are dragons and monsters. The dragon in this tale may be their fiery attraction but the monster won’t remain in the past where it belongs. When the monster resurfaces, this damsel and her knight must brave the currents and fight to keep from going under.
Criminal Minds meets Pride and Prejudice
Going Under delivers on everything the awesome cover promises! The suspense of a psychological thriller and a love story you just aren't sure is going to work out. I was sorry it ended!
This is Anna Bishop Barker's first book, and it's fantastic. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop until I finished it. I absolutely loved Max's and Rebecca's story. It had heartbreaking tragedy, and thrilling suspense balanced against sweet romance, and tantalizing sex scenes. Going Under is a spectacular first book for a new author, and I can't wait to read what comes next from Anna Bishop Barker.
First let's start with disclosures. I received this book as an ARC (advanced reader's copy) in exchange for an honest review and I am a member of Team Titan. (Readers and fans of all things Titan).
"Going Under" is one of 10 books all set in the Titan World and all by different authors. This is Anna's first novel and it's nothing short of a spectacular debut. Anna's smart wit and snarky humor carry evenly throughout the story. Her descriptive style weaves a vivid portrait of Becca, a guarded woman, and Max, our handsome ex-ARMY Ranger hero, who has fallen hard for his colleague (and neighbor.)
Titan books are all about romance and suspense and Anna has stayed true to that formula but with her own twist of humor and a few inside "nods" that only her family or Team Titan might catch.
Becca and Max are Anna's own characters but when the Titan characters enter the picture, Anna portrays them in a manner consistent with what we know of these individuals from previous Titan books. (Not an easy task, I'm sure)
Max and Becca's foray into the Titan World was a seamless transition for this fan of the series.
One more thing we Titan fans are looking for in our books is steamy, hot, sex scenes.
Anna. Nailed. It.
Scorching-go back and read it twice-make your cheeks flush-scenes. Yep...she nailed it.
And it's not just the romantic scenes, this book has all the feels. You will be up and down several times over before the ending . Anna brings you into her world of Max and Becca and the tense relationship they have with each other and the ever present heightened sense that danger is lurking somewhere close by. She lays the plot out flawlessly and before you know it you're catching your breath and reading the epilogue. "Going Under" left me with a book hangover and yearning for a book two!
That is a spectacular debut!
