Gone with the Wind

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Since its original publication in 1936, Gone With the Wind—winner of the Pulitzer Prize and one of the bestselling novels of all time—has been heralded by readers everywhere as The Great American Novel.

Widely considered The Great American Novel, and often remembered for its epic film version, Gone With the Wind explores the depth of human passions with an intensity as bold as its setting in the red hills of Georgia. A superb piece of storytelling, it vividly depicts the drama of the Civil War and Reconstruction.

This is the tale of Scarlett O’Hara, the spoiled, manipulative daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, who arrives at young womanhood just in time to see the Civil War forever change her way of life. A sweeping story of tangled passion and courage, in the pages of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell brings to life the unforgettable characters that have captured readers for over seventy years.

Customer Reviews

Classic realistic but romantic.

I saw this movie when I was only 10 years old and it has always been my favorite. This is only my second reading of this book and it still carries me to an era that you feel you are living in. The realities of the time are correct and the feelings real, something every student should read.
My love for this book is past down to my daughter who I am reading this to a little at a time. We read her book then I read this and she is enamored with it. She is 6 and that should tell you something about the authors ability to draw you in as if you are living it with the characters. There is no doubt in my mind that Scarlet is someone I can identify with on some. Level.

A classic

When I first read this book, I prolonged my reading experience over the course of a few months because I was enjoying it so much. I sincerely believe that this book is the number one American classic. The storyline is historically accurate and the characters are brilliantly developed. It does however have a very disagreeable main character. Scarlett O’Hara is selfish, vain, predictable, shallow, and somehow endearing. She is the person you love to hate and yet sometimes root for. This book is a great read, and a definite gem.

Gone with the wind

Took me nearly a week to finish, but a fabulous read. Definitely my favorite book ever.
