Jonathan Swift explores the different aspects of humanity through the four voyages of Lemuel Gulliver. In Lilliput, Gulliver is threatened and attacked by the miniature Lilliputians, a situation that is reversed when he travels to Brobdingnag, a land of gentle giants who do not realise their power. On his third voyage, to Laputa a flying island, he finds a nation whose obsession with knowledge has caused them to lose touch with everyday life and on his final voyage he meets the Houyhnhnms, an equitable society of horses with good 
principles who contrast starkly with the Yahoos, human-like creatures that are greedy and violent.
