Decker/Lazarus Novels - A Decker/Lazarus Novel

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

“No one working in the crime genre is better.”
—Baltimore Sun

L.A.P.D. Homicide Detective Peter Decker and his wife Rina Lazarus are back on a case in Hangman—an electrifying new novel of suspense from Faye Kellerman, New York Times bestselling author of Blindman’s Bluff, The Mercedes Coffin, The Burnt House, and many other masterful thrillers. A stunning tale of crime and detection featuring the brutal death of a “party girl” health care worker, a mysterious disappearance, and the chilling return of an all-too-familiar sociopath, Hangman is Kellerman’s 21st bestseller to feature Decker and Lazarus, “Hands down, the most refreshing mystery couple around.” (People)

From Publishers Weekly

Jun 28, 2010 – Kellerman once again mixes mystery and soap opera in her 19th novel featuring Lt. Peter Decker of the LAPD and his wife, Rina Lazarus (after Blindman's Bluff). Terry McLaughlin, a doctor and battered wife, asks Decker, who's an old friend, to help mediate a meeting with her abusive husband. When McLaughlin disappears soon after the meeting, her 14-year-old son, Gabe, a gifted piano prodigy, is left on his own. Welcomed into the Decker/Lazarus household, Gabe is allowed to attend their youngest daughter's Jewish day school, even though he's Catholic. Meanwhile, Decker fears that an unidentified woman who's found hanged at a construction site may be Gabe's mother. Readers should be prepared for some unconvincing police procedure (members of Decker's team obliviously contaminate a crime scene) and some stilted prose ("Everything works out. Sometimes it works out good. And sometimes it works out bad. It's the bad that concerns me"), but series fans will cheer the serendipitous developments that lead to a better life for Gabe.

Great characters...great book

I've never read any of the Lt Decker stories before but this makes me want more. My only problem with it is the lack of closure at the end... Almost as if it's part of a series rather than a complete novel in itself.

Good but somewhat weak ending

Classic Peter/Rina with cameos of all the family. Seems to be set up for a sequel given the ending.

Another solid addition to the Decker/Lazarus series

With cameos by the whole family and references to cases from several previous novels, this story was intriguing and suspenseful and a pleasure to read - if you were a long-time fan. I suppose it is inevitable that the more books there are in the series the more likely the later ones will read like a summary of days gone by. Having read every Kellerman novel, I enjoyed this immensely, especially Peter's birthday. But not sure how much someone new to the series would have enjoyed it as all the references to other cases would have been both a blessing (can't wait to read them all) and a curse (guess I'll have to read all the others to really appreciate this story). But for me, this one was a good solid read and I am glad I had all my stored knowledge to make the experience a truly gratifying one.
