1 a: Keep safe or rescue (someone or something) from harm or danger.
Synonyms: rescue, come to someone's rescue, save someone's life, set free, liberate, deliver, extricate.
Saving lives is the end goal.
It's a responsibility I live with every day, the reason I wear the badge.
Built on a brotherhood that runs deeper than blood, this way of life has become my very existence...
I thought I was saving her.
I never expected her to be the one saving me.
Less action than expected
This is another one of those reviews I hate to write.
I’m a fan of River Savage and really enjoyed all her other books, but HETCH just didn’t do it for me. I struggled to finish reading the book and honestly could have put it down (or exited my app) and walked away from it. Thankfully, I pushed through the first two-thirds of the book because the last third is what really saved it. I’m not going to give any spoilers away, but the emotion ramped up and the story finally engaged me.
The rest of the book just felt trite. Their initial ‘meet’ is actually amusing, but then it just falls into one cliche after another. Hetch’s interest in Liberty is piqued because she doesn’t fall at his feet in awe of his alpha-male prowess. The thing is, most of the time Hetch comes off less alpha-male and more alpha-hole. He’s just not a male lead I want to make into a book boyfriend. Liberty is likable enough except when she says things like, “What are you doing, you big lug?”
From the blurb and subtitle (Men of S.W.A.T), I was expecting more action. More tension relating to his job as a S.W.A.T team lead. While it’s in there, it reads more like a training SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) than an actual operation. Of note, NO ONE is going to continue giving or getting head when two flash bangs go off in a house.
While the emotional ending saved this book, ultimately, there was something missing from HETCH overall.
Caretakers and The System
Hetch is a S.W.A.T. team leader. He often has to talk people down in hostage or suicide situations. He's had some experience with this in his personal life also. Sometimes it all gets to be too much for him. He's great at helping others, but he needs to learn to give himself that same courtesy.
Liberty works in a home for teen boys. It's not an easy job. Many of her charges have the streets calling them, and she goes above and beyond to try to keep them on the right path. Her job is pretty much her life.
When these two first get together, you never know if they're going to fight or fall into bed. He's not used to being told no. She's unable to bite her tongue. It makes for some colorful dialogue between them.
This book is a mix of sassy, sexy and sweet. It has sincere and strength moments too. I really liked Hetch. If you like cop or law dramas that show the job life and home life, this is right up your alley.
I enjoyed this book so-much! Great storyline, awesome characters... it has it all! Hetch is easy to fall for, and Liberty is a strong female lead. Their romance is great!
