Fierce Highland war chief seeks comely lass for fun, frolic, and marriage
Marcus MacPherson is every inch the fearsome Highlander. He’s used to men averting their eyes and women cowering before him. He thinks he’ll eventually settle down with a nice, obedient bride. Instead, he gets Helen Grant… Stubborn as the day is long, fearless and dedicated to raising as much hell as possible, Helen is definitely going to challenge Marcus. And challenge him some more. And then some.
It’s anyone’s guess who’ll win this battle of the heart…

This is one of the best highlander romance that I've read in a long time. Mary Wine has written some very good historical romance and she's hit it out of the park with this one. I loved everything about this book. The main and secondary characters are so good and complex the suspense and twists and turns were page turning and the sexual tension was off the charts.
Marcus MacPherson is the MacPherson War Chief and the bastard son of the Laird and Helen Grant have been dancing around each other for a year. Marcus has vowed not to fall under a woman's spell and Helen is done with being controlled by men. There's just one problem neither of them can stop thinking of the other. Helen has nothing to bring to a match and needs to get away from the Marcus so she leaves and heads to court with Brenda Grant. Marcus heads to court after Helen only to thrown in a cell and until he agrees to the Regents demands. Helen and Brenda devise a plan to save Marcus, Helen must marry him before the Regent forces his hand and weds him to another. Marcus sees this as a way to keep Helen but Helen plans to give him his freedom. The closer they get the harder it is to stay together when there is so many working against them to tear them apart. They may not survive it.
I need to go back and read the first book.
Gritty but hard to put down
Helen goes from being Marcus' captive to tricking the Regent in order to save Marcus to being kidnapped a couple times. She never loses her spirit. Each time she is rescued by Marcus, her feelings become stronger. Marcus is a War Chieftain and is not good at expressing himself. His lack of communication has Helen turning from him. As they spend time together between disasters, Marcus shows his personal side. Together, they finally give into the feelings. There are many characters in this story, lead ups to future stories, and I want to read more to see how their stories go.
I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and it is a Book Obsessed Chicks Star Review selection. This is my unsolicited review.
