How I Got This Way (Enhanced Edition)

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

One of the most popular television and cultural icons ever, Regis Philbin has been entertaining television audiences for more than fifty years—as a beloved morning-show host (Live with Regis and Kelly), a nighttime game-show host (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?) and also as a fixture on national and local late-night talk shows. The irrepressible “Reege” has regaled television audiences with his stories for more than half a century, but he’s saved the most hilarious, surprising, heartfelt, and inspiring tales for How I Got This Way. Both a fascinating show business memoir and a delightful primer for living the good life rolled into one, How I Got This Way is Reege being Reege, just the way we love him, as he shares the secrets to success and happiness that he has learned from his innumerable celebrity encounters, his close, personal friendships, and, of course,  his relationship with his loving wife and family.

From Publishers Weekly

Dec 12, 2011 – In his much-anticipated memoir, talk show host Philbin discusses his decades-long career in television and pays homage to his greatest influences (including his favorite sports teams). The beginning of the book traces his journey from the Bronx to the University of Notre Dame, a subsequent stint in the Navy, and his first hosting gigs, most notably on The Joey Bishop Show. Philbin notes some of his most memorable interviews from those early days, including "king of all the gossip hounds" Walter Winchell and a young Bill Cosby. His most well-known co-hosts receive dedicated chapters where he describes in detail Joey Bishop's sour temperament and his genuine fondness for Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelly Ripa. Later, he shares stories about Hollywood stars, recounting a party at George Clooney's villa at Lake Como and watching a Lakers game courtside with Jack Nicholson. Each chapter of this well-written, fun book ends with a few pieces of relevant advice for the reader, rounding out a work that fans of Regis or general celebrity gossip will surely enjoy.

Customer Reviews

What a honor !

I feel honor that I was able to read and understand Regis more that he had down times in his life but he never gave up. I had no idea the people he knew and they befriended him with open arms and a open heart. He has lead a full life and he has more to come for sure. I hope he writes about his next step in his life. He is funny a true entertainer and friend to everyone. I miss seeing him daily but after reading the book I understand why it was time to MOVE ON ! Thank you Regis.

How I got this way Regis philbin

If you love Regis on the air, you will love this book. I truly believe, what you see is what you get. What a wonderful human being. How lucky were we for having the privilege of inviting him to our home daily and now he confirms his "realness" in a book. Good job, reeg. S Merritt.
