Ice, meet FIre
A Review of Ice (The Elite Forces Series, Book 1) by Hilary Storm & Kathy Coopmans
Ice, meet Fire - 5 stars
This was the first book I've read by these authors and I absolutely LOVED it! Jade has busted her butt to make it to the rank of Captain in the Army. She is a dedicated and very proficient sniper and takes no BS from anyone. When we first meet her, she is ready to scratch an itch that is driving her up the wall because they are in a holding pattern, waiting for a new commander to come in and give them their new orders.
Unfortunately, that Commander walks into her tent just as she is about to scratch her itch with her best friend. Knowing this could very well be the end of both of their careers, Jade goes into a meeting with this new Commander, ready to face her consequences. When he tells her to get on her knees and she refuses, he tells her that she just ended her carrer as well as that of her friend. Although this could be seen as sexual harrassment, Jade ends up giving him what he wants, not knowing that he already knows everything about her and that he was set on getting her before he ever met her.
There are a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns in this book, enough to keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more at the same time. It does end on a HUGE cliffhanger, so I am now anxiously awaiting the second book to come out so I can find out what happens. There were several grammatical issues that bugged me, but not enough to keep me from rating it at the 5 stars it deserves. Great storyline!
Yes, it's an action-packed, gritty story with very sexy, likeable characters. But I was distracted by strange scene segues and insulted that the authors seemed merely to rely on spellcheck. Readers should not have to put up with blatant grammatical errors. Of the many individuals acknowledged, didn't anyone proofread? A simple basic rule: "He and I" are subjects showing action; "him and me" are objects upon whom action is made. Example: spoke to him; spoke to me; spoke to him and me. NOT "to him and I" as written several times.
