Description

Introduction

You are about to read a collection of poetic praise for some of life’s current favorite icons, starting with my favorite poem “Mamma Latte”.
Mamma Latte was lovingly penned one fine Sunday morning while living in Dubai in 2007. A shriek really did fill the air, when I realized we were all out of coffee. I’d forgotten to buy more the day before and peering into the empty coffee canister made me long for the drive-thru Starbucks I used to frequent not far from where I had been living in the States.
I was convinced it was going to be a rough day and over a coffee-less breakfast the words of Mamma Latte flowed through my head so strongly that I wrote them down.
A few weeks prior to this, I had experienced an extravagant Afternoon Tea at the Burj Al Arab. A second poem sprang to life, based on my feelings for this gleaming icon that could be seen sticking up above all other things for miles.
Two more poems followed, “Fruitful Music” and “Dream Ride”.
I lived for the music I played on my iPod and the greatest escape for me back then was to put on the head phones and zone out, thus Fruitful Music was penned from a feeling of gratefulness for this wonderful invention.
The sighting of sports cars on the way to school became a favorite pastime in Dubai. It was not uncommon to see a Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati all on the same day, either driving to or from school. My boys could often be heard in the back seat of the car discussing which sports car they would buy when they grew up. And being kids, they would change their car preference just about every other week. One week it would be the red Ferrari, the next, a yellow Lamborghini. They would ask me which sports car I was going to buy when I grew up and I always took a while to run through the options before concluding that I would have my very own Bentley GT. From these weekly backseat conversations, I penned “Dream Ride”.
Before leaving Dubai, I wrote one last poem, “Time Piece”. I had my precious Tank Francaise serviced at Cartier in the Mall of the Emirates and I received it back in a, cherry red suede, drawstring pouch. The words came forth, richly and easily. I put this outpouring of poetry down to living in such an opulent place. A place where gold and silver joined yellow, red and blue on the primary color wheels.
However, as with much of life that starts out on a whim, these hand written poems ended up in the digital equivalent of the bottom of a drawer – saved in a word document in a folder marked miscellaneous! And back to the States I went.
Scroll forward to Christmas Day 2010 and I happened to be looking at old photos on my computer when I came across my small collection of five poems from the days in Dubai. With Christmas music playing, the fireplace glowing and a belly full of Turkey, I got an idea. I would write more. I would write a whole collection and in keeping with the first five subjects of my poems I knew that the collection would be on the current favorites, the icons, the brands we love to love – the brands I love. My mind was ripe and creative words flowed. A week later fifteen more poems were born into the collection!
I hope you will enjoy what you read as much as I have enjoyed writing every last happy and harmonious rhyming word.
