Can't Resist Him
#4, River Bend
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
Sometimes what you want and what you need are two very different things.
Always relegated to the “friends with benefits” corner of small town River Bend, Jenny Riley is done giving the milk for free. Falling hard for a bad boy? Not in the plan, either.
Sexy, emotionally-wounded Marine Reservist Brody Nelson just needs someone to lend an ear. A friend. Friends to lovers? That’s more than he bargained for.
Neither wants a relationship. A long distance friendship should be enough.
Warning: This books contains a tattooed, pierced hero with a few surprises up his sleeve...and a hella sexy one down his pants.
Can't Resist This Series
I have read all the books in this series. This was a great addition to the series. It has fun! It has HOT! It has drama! And of course, great buddies and catty, always-have-your-back girlfriends.
No cliffhanger - Molly's books just keep getting better and better!!!
OK, first of all I have to say I love the warning that Molly posted for this book. When I reviewed her first book I was critical of the fact that there was no disclaimer stating how many 4-letter words were in the book. (She added a warning before the book was published.) Understand that I don’t object to strong language and lots of hot sexy time. However, some readers want to know and will leave negative reviews if they buy a book that didn’t warn them in advance.
Each time I read a new book from Molly it becomes my favorite of hers and Can’t Resist Him is no exception. This book pounded all of my emotions. I felt so bad for Jenny. She feels like she is the town slut – especially after her on-again, off-again “boyfriend” dumps her – again. She is determined that she will no longer be that girl who gives away the milk for free.
Brody is a damaged hero. He suffered a huge loss during his last deployment and feels responsible for what happened. He wants to deploy again but the shrink won’t clear him; something he is deeply ashamed of and hasn’t even told his family.
Brody and Jenny run into each other in Las Vegas. At first they don’t realize that they have met each other before in River Bend where Jenny lives. While there is an instant attraction between the two, Jenny sticks to her new resolution and Brody is totally respectful of that.
Jenny and Brody help each other to heal and just when everything is going great it all goes to hell. You’ll have to read the book for yourself to find out how things resolve and Jenny and Brody finally get their HEA.
The characters in this book are well developed and the story line compelling. While this is part of a series it stands alone and you won’t feel lost if you haven’t read any of the other River Bend books (but you really should because they are great).
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A beautiful story of loss and healing
This is Molly McLain's best book, yet. I've read all of the books in the River Bend series, and the stories keep getting better and better. This story is about two wounded people coming together and finding healing in falling in love. Jenny is feeling like she's made bad decisions when it comes to men. She's used sex to try to keep them interested, and her heart has gotten broken in the process. She is weary of getting her heart involved again and decides to take is slow when she meets Brody, the guy she can't seem to forget. Brody is struggling stateside after three tours overseas. He has been diagnosed with PTSD and doesn't know who he is if he can't continue to be a Marine. He is mourning the death of two friends and finds that Jenny is the only thing that quiets all the noise in his head. He is patient and lets her set the pace, though his insecurities of being too damaged for Jenny hold him back as well. This is a beautiful story of honest emotion and deep connection that makes the reader feel that love can really conquer all. So fun to see other River Bend characters as well. Can't wait for more!
