This book is the grammar component of the Classic Literature level of the Michael Clay Thompson language arts curriculum.
The Grammar of Literature introduces MCT’s new ‘t-model’ for illustrating sentences. This t-model exquisitely showcases one of the crucial parts of MCT’s genius—his ability to render complex grammar relationships in simple and beautiful graphics. The t-model clearly shows the importance of nouns and verbs in relation to adjectives, adverbs, and other parts of speech and the importance of the subject and verb in relation to the other parts of the sentence. It visually emphasizes the dichotomy between subject and predicate, visually clarifies the distinction between action verbs and linking or feeling verbs, and provides a simple, clear, and elegant visualization of phrases, particularly of verbal phrases. Its simplification of verbals will help students figure out complicated sentences and master what perplexed their ancestors and continues to prove daunting to their parents and teachers.
Each chapter includes interactive exercises for 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-level analysis.
