To Love a Highland Dragon
#2, Dragon Lore
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
A dragon shifter stirs and wakens in a cave beneath Inverness, deep in the Scottish Highlands. The cave’s the same and his hoard intact, yet something’s badly amiss. Determined to set whatever’s gone wrong to rights, Lachlan Moncrieffe ventures above ground—and wishes he hadn’t. His castle’s gone, replaced by ungainly row houses. Men aren’t wearing plaids, and women scarcely wear anything at all, particularly the woman who accosts him with unseemly banter. What manner of wench is she to dress so provocatively?
In Inverness for a year on a psychiatry fellowship, Dr. Maggie Hibbins watches an oddly dressed man pick his way out of a heather and gorse thicket. Even though it runs counter to her better judgment, she teases him about his strange attire. He looks so lost—and so unbelievably, knock-out gorgeous —she takes a chance and stands him a meal. Lachlan’s shock when he picks up a local newspaper at a pub is so palpable, Maggie jumps in with both feet.
She knew something was off, but the hard-to-accept truth bashes gaping holes in her equilibrium. He looks odd, sounds odd, acts odd because he’s a refugee from another era. Her half-baked seduction scheme takes a hike, but her carefully constructed life is still about to change forever. Born of powerful witches, Maggie runs headlong into the myth and magic that are her birthright.
Dragon Shifter Awakens
The dragon Kheladin awakens and knows he is in his cave but based on the pile of shed dragon scales can tell that a long time has passed by. The last thing he remembers is battling Rhukon an evil black wyvern. He shifts into his bonded mage form of Lachlan Moncrieffe. Lachlan dons a kilt, shirt, and leather boots to venture outside to see what is going on. Instead of seeing his castle and lands, he sees a very different and confusing world.
Dr. Maggie Hibbins has come to Scotland for a psychiatric internship. She comes from a family of witches but has not embraced that side of her heritage because of losing her parents early on due to a fight with a rival coven. Maggie is the first person that Lachlan interacts with after emerging from the cave. She is intrigued by the way he is dressed and his manner of speech. They are immediately drawn to each other. Can she embrace her witchy side and fight together with Lachlan to defeat the dark forces aligned against them and the humans in our world? Add in some Celtic gods and godesses and a witches coven council you have an excellent book with well developed characters.
While To Love a Highland Dragon is the second book in the Dragon Lore series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Though I do suggest you read the books in the order they were written to better understand all of the characters as the "dark magic" theme weaves through the books. I look forward to reading the other books in this series. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Oh... This just gets better and better!
Received this book free for an honest review. Wow! This story just gets better and better. I love the way the author incorporates her other book's characters into this series as well. It's nice to hear about and visit old friends. What's in store for us in the next book? Well, look no further. Just grab it and read along with me!
I loved the story of how Maggie & Lachlan/Kelideen meet and grow to love each other. They are up against other immortals who don't want them together. They get help from some gods & Maggie's powerful grandmother.
Awesome story made more wonderful by Millers sexy voice reading it. Can't wait for book 3 to see what happens next.
