The Face Transplant

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Dr. Matthew MacAulay is a facial transplant surgeon at a prestigious New York hospital. When his friend and mentor, Tom Grabowski, dies under mysterious circumstances, Matthew uncovers his friend’s secret: a new technique that allows perfect facial transplants. No incisions, no scars. Tom was able to accomplish this monumental feat with the help of Alice, a supercomputer robot with almost human abilities. While trying to find the people responsible for murdering Tom, Matthew realizes he is the prime suspect. He must flee for his life with the help of Dr. Sarah Larsson, a colleague and reluctant helper, who has a secret of her own, and Alice, who helps them make sense of a baffling series of seemingly unrelated events. The clues carry Matthew and Sarah around the world. They stumble onto a sinister plot of monumental proportions that leads Matthew all the way to the White House.
The Face Transplant is a powerful medical suspense thriller of the first order. The novel was written by a surgeon who weaves politics, medicine, and espionage into a tightly paced, intelligent thriller.

The Face Transplant - Fast-paced and Suspenseful!

The Face Transplant takes you for a great ride! This is a clean, fast paced mystery. R. Arundel creatively details the characters that interact so well with each other as surprises and challenges come their way. Matthew leads the drama and I really liked him. His team travels all over the world to solve the dilemma they find themselves in after a face transplant surgery goes wrong. I could visualize where they were and what was happening in every scenario, a very good quaity for a first time writer. The circumstances that occur could happen in the future and probably are in place now. The plot is clearly thought out and drives the movement of the book. I stayed up to read this one. I will be watching for more books from this author! I highly recommend reading this fascinating book, The Face Transplant.
I received a copy of this book by Net Galley for an honest review which I have given.

The Face Transplant

I received a free advance e-copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Wow! This book really made me think. Could something like this happen in this country? The action starts on the first page and never stops. This is a medical thriller and a very dark political conspiracy. The face transplants, the plans to use a virus as a biological weapon, and the use of other biological weapons made me think of The Third Reich and Hitler’s medical team and their many experiments. Today we are using robots to do many medical procedures but the robot used for the face transplants seemed to be more human than machine. The author creates a futuristic scenario throughout the book but as I read the thought kept running through my mind, “what if this would really happen?” and chills ran up and down my spine. I recommend reading this very fascinating and well-written book.

Medical Thriller

Matthew is a physician who is called upon to perform a full facial transplant. The recipient dies in the process. Within seconds of this death, his surgical nurse is murdered and he and the anesthesiologist run from the OR to short lived safety. He is made into the prime suspect in the murder and is sought by local and federal authorities. Matt makes use of his friends and acquaintances and begins to investigate the murder and its circumstances. In the process he, too, has a facial transplant. The investigation takes him into many areas of the world where his former cohorts are now residing. It also leads him into rediscovering his past. All in all, it is well written, suspenseful and engrossing.

Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC for an honest review.
