Description

Paxton Vance isn’t as cryptic as he thinks. That broody nature and tough-guy exterior aren’t fooling me one bit.

I know everything about him. I listen in on his most personal phone calls. I read his mail before he does. I even know what his mother got him for Christmas last year.

You’re the man of my dreams, Paxton Vance. You just don’t know it yet.

But don’t worry, I’ll remind you. I’m here to give you everything you need, before you know you need it.

So don’t get defensive because I take a challenge seriously. You have to open up to someone, and that someone is me.

Besides, you can’t stay Mr. Mysterious forever. Why play the game if you never want to win?

The romance, Loyalty & Intrigue will hook you

I’m completely hooked on J.A. Huss’ Mister Series, and with a moniker like Mr. Mysterious, I couldn’t help but be curious about this particular Mister. In book four of the Mister Series of standalone novels, readers get Paxton Vance’s story in addition to advancement in the overall series story arc.
While students at Brown University, the now infamous Misters were falsely accused of rape. The charges were dropped when the accuser was found dead; of course, that situation only made the general public question their involvement more! Their fixer had them keep quiet and scatter. These five former classmates have loosely remained friends over the past ten years, and now they need each other more than ever. Three of the five have found their “Mrs.” while in the process of thwarting a new attempt to bring them down. The mystery continues as Mr. Mysterious’ past comes back to haunt him.
At the end of book three, Mr. Corporate, Ms. Huss throws out a very subtle hint at the holder of Mr. Mysterious’ affections. It is none other than Cinderella Shrike. Cindy has been obsessed with the Misters, especially Mysterious, since her brother Oliver (AKA Mr. Match) came home to break the news of the rape accusation to their parents. Cindy is smart as a whip, wicked with a weapon, and pin-up-girl sexy (just like her mom, Veronica “Bombshell” Vaughn Shrike). She is also creatively determined to worm her way into Paxton Vance’s life.
“He saw beyond this filly’s pretty looks and found her potential.”

“…you’re one tough b@#ch, Cinderella.”

Paxton Vance, AKA Mr. Mysterious, is every bit as unpredictable and dangerous as you imagine. He is also just as vulnerable and insecure as every other Mister readers have met so far. The ten year old scandal will not die, and they continue to live under a shadow of doubt.

“Such a contradiction between the man on the outside I’ve come to know and the one I stalked all these years.”

In this book, I especially enjoyed the story structure. The story starts with an inebriated Paxton explaining himself, but during that explanation of the past, the story is told not solely from Paxton’s POV. It is told in dual POV by both Cindy and Paxton; I loved the insight into both characters. The dual POV narration continues when the story moves to the present.
I love J.A. Huss’ writing. The red herrings. The big twists and reveals. Most of all, I appreciate the convoluted, complex plots that she dreams up and weaves together like it is a simple “knit one, purl one” pattern. When an author makes writing a complicated story look like child’s play, you know she is a prima ballerina of authors. J. A. Huss is a dancer who leaves you with the impression that her work of art was effortless.

“Look out for the people who look out for you. Because in the end, they’re the only ones who matter.”

Whether you’re in it for the Misters or their “Mrs.”, you’ll love the romance, loyalty and intrigue layered into each book of this series.

Mysteriously Sexy Read!!!

I've figured out something about JA Huss. She is a freaking evil genius... with a very dirty mind. No wonder I love her books so much! Mr. Mysterious blew me away! So many answers, yet still so many more questions. At the end of every Mr. book, I feel like I've run a marathon... in circles. I'm exhilarated, happily exhausted, and confused as hell, yet I can't wait to do it again. The wait for Mr. Match will be excruciating! I have to say that I absolutely loved this book from start to finish! Pax may very well be my favorite Mr. so far. And as for Cindy, well, she is a Shrike after all. Nuff said. They really are quite a lovely couple... once you get past all the lies and deceit, but then, every couple has their issues, right? Another highlight of this book for me was Five. I've had a soft spot in my heart for him ever since HEA so it was really nice to catch up with him a bit. I've wondered where life took him, and although we don't really find that out in this book, it was still nice to at least get a little glimpse into his character. Fu*king Five! He's just one of the elements that makes this book so phenomenal. It's romantic and intriguing and provocative and compelling and enigmatic and absolutely riveting. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a mysteriously sexy read.

* I was given an ARC of this book by the author and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.

Paxton Vance, will you please be my Prince Charming?

J. A. Huss has indeed managed to master the art of screwing with my brain all the while still delivering these steamy, panty-dropping scenes and lines that will make you swoon like it's nobody's business. And then, she blindsides the heck out of you with all these twists and turns that will leave your world spinning and making you so paranoid because of the theories you try to conjure up in your head. Nothing is ever as it seems with this author—NOTHING! Though ironically, every mystery and every second of putting the puzzle pieces together is satisfyingly worth everything. Need I mention that the anticipation levels on every book of this series is set on maximum heights? If you're not squirming or sweating buckets because of the intense heat of Paxton and Cinderella's playful and filthy exchanges, you're at the edge of your seat, biting your nails, driving yourself to the brink wanting to find answers.

I've previously mentioned that these last two Misters, Mysterious and Match, are the ones who've always intrigued me the most. They barely give anything away, yet they have this certain magnetism that will draw you to them, wanting to know everything there is to know about them. Rewinding back to Romantic and Corporate's books, I honestly thought Paxton Vance's story will be something so dreadfully dark and dangerous. Something that will knock me sideways, but I was in for a surprise. It wasn't the complete exact opposite of that, though let's just say that wasn't the way I pictured it at all. Don't get me wrong, he's as cautious and vicious as they come, but there's a gentleness in him too. He knows when to tone down and he won me over with his utmost loyalty to those he keeps close to his heart. Oh, and I'm sorry if I'm being a bit cryptic here, but that move on he did on the house—his Malibu house—that completely melted my heart and blew my ovaries apart. And I love the way he's up to playing games with his Sugar Cookie. Just remember, Miss Sugar Cookie Meets Detective Mysterious. I'll leave it at that.

Cinderella "Cindy" Shrike is such a bad*ss princess. I love her take-no-prisoners attitude; she just does whatever she wants to. I admit, I was a tad skeptical by her teenage obsession in the beginning, but she convinced me little by little, page after page. I did not expect the way she entered the picture, came into play and met Pax though. It was like she literally came out of nowhere, but she does have a very close connection to all this. She's so smart and she seems to have a way with everything, yet she still has her own mysteriousness too. But come to think of it, she's indeed the perfect match to Mysterious. They have so much similarities and they just jive. They understand each other and know what the other needs without even needing to speak. Together, they make the fairytale of Prince Charming and Cinderella come to life. It might not be a perfect one, but it was them.

Gaaaaah, just please put us out of our misery! Waiting for the last book in this series will be pure torture since you know everything will finally come to full circle after that. All the answers we've been waiting for and struggling to find will be there, laid out all in the open. Plus, I'm DYING to know what Mr. Match's story is and who will be the lucky Missus to tie him down! Well, this is yet another hell of a rollercoaster ride to anticipate from the one and only J. A. Huss for sure!
