" —Bookpage

You go through life thinking there’s so much you need. . . . Until you leave with only your phone, your wallet, and a picture of your mother. Marin hasn’t spoken to anyone from her old life since the day she left everything behind. No one knows the truth about those final weeks. Not even her best friend Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she’s tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit and Marin will be forced to face everything that’s been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart.

An intimate whisper that packs an indelible punch, We Are Okay is Nina LaCour at her finest. This gorgeously crafted and achingly honest portrayal of grief will leave you urgent to reach across any distance to reconnect with the people you love.

Beautiful

This book will really pull and tug at your heart.
When I read it, it made me take a step back and think about who I am, who I was, and who I want to be. I loved the passion and the way the words seem to fill your heart and leave you wanting more.

We Are Okay

i saw my sophomore year english teacher reading this book in class, and just by the front cover art alone i knew it looked intriguing. i asked her if i could borrow the book after she was done with it, and being that she is an english teacher she loved the fact that any of her students were interested in reading, she said of course. this book is what got me back interested in reading. i couldn’t put it down. the characters are so easy to connect with, and the book itself is like a warm hug. it has the perfect amount of imagery so you can truly picture the scenes of every place and yet not get bored with it as sometimes books tend to have too much detail and it get overwhelming. there are a few plot twists in this book, and the ending left me crying. (no spoilers, don’t worry). overall this is a short and sweet read, and i 1000000% recommend it. :)

I Love It

This book was one of the options for my school’s summer reading. I mainly only chose this book because this seemed like the best options out of all of them. But now I’m glad I chose this book. I really felt connected Marin and I loved the relationship between her and Mabel and Mabel’s family. I was overcome with joy at the end of the book and tried so hard not to cry. We Are Okay is now definitely one of my favorite books.
