Amanda finds she has to do more than pet-sitting over the Christmas holidays when Matilda the tortoise goes missing. Soon the whole neighborhood rush to help, but no one with more enthusiasm than the mysterious body guard of the recluse romance writer next door.
"Who were these people? She didn’t care. She loved each and every one of them."
Amanda has been working hard and saving for the trip to her mother's birthplace in Venice. She was getting excited, having put the deposit down. It was really going to happen, until Matilda escapes. For a very large tortoise, it seemed like she simply disappeared. Amanda scoured the area but to no avail until she hears that a neighbor found the wayward beast and had her taken to a rescue. Amanda cancels her trip to pay the finder the reward she had posted much to her disappointment. But a promise is a promise, and Amanda will go another year.
However, other forces are at work and as the story unfolds,Amanda has a front row seat to a while new story.
As someone who had no clue until yesterday that one of my favorite authors had written a holiday short, I am so happy that I just read this wonderful holiday tale with a lot of heart. More Amanda please! 5/5
