Awesome book!!!

When We Were Young (Hopelessly Devoted Book 1) by Gen Ryan

5 Stars

This is my second book by this author and it was awesome!! The writing style is smooth and reads easy. The character building is spot on and the storyline pulled me in from the first page. I'm not from a military family and although I've never experienced what Rainey is in this book, the author described all her feelings as well as Parkers in a way that gave me a hint of understanding what so many experience every day.

Rainey broke my heart in this story, I am married to my high school sweetheart and do understand building all your hopes and dreams on that relationship. Parker placing his military career above all else because he feels it's who he is didn't make me angry because of the want to serve his country, it made me angry because he couldn't be honest until it was too late. Rainey kept hoping and praying for her dreams to come true and to have her husband back and constantly tried to do the right thing. I respected her character so so much.

I loved her best friend, and although far away she was able to offer Rainey so much support and I really enjoyed reading their interactions. When things started happening that gave Rainey hope for a happy future the past comes back landing right on her doorstep. Now what the heck is she gonna do?

Thankfully there is not a long wait for the release of the continuation of Rainey and Parker's story, I cant even imagine how this is going to play out, but I can't wait to find out!!

I love this author and still have a few books I need to get from her and will get on that while I wait for Part 2.
