His life is chaos and confusion. It’s a storm of uncertainty and raging emotion.
Sutton Warner is a mess. Everything in his life feels like it’s unraveling.
He’s let a lot of people down lately, including his daughter. Sutton always promised his little girl he would never disappoint her and that he would always be there when she needed him. Until he wasn’t.
The truth is, he’s used to disappointing the women in his life. First was his mother who couldn’t find a reason to stick around when he was growing up. Then there’s his ex. The woman who takes unbridled delight in making his life incredibly complicated. Luckily, his daughter is still young enough to believe her old man is some kind of hero. But, he knows the day is coming when she realizes the truth, which is, he’s just a man with some serious flaws and a list of ever-growing weaknesses.
Finally, there’s the woman he’s desperately trying to forget with every shot tossed back and each pill popped.
He more than disappointed Emrys…he almost got her killed.
Her love is steady and sure. It’s a shelter shaped by conviction and silent assurance.
Emrys Santos is lost. Everything in her life feels pointless and futile.
She’s been busy running away from her feelings and all the people who love her the most—including her best friend, the one person who knows exactly what she’s been through. They promised to always stick together and to lean on one another. It was a promise Em had to break so she could lick her wounds and figure out her next move. For once, there is no easy way out of the tangled web of emotions she’s caught up in, and right now, she recognizes that all roads lead back to Wyoming…and back to Sutton.
The man she nearly got killed.
Shelter is a standalone novel, the second book in the Getaway series, which features the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them. These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.
Suspense and Romance Wrapped in Pretty Bow
I loved Shelter. It was by far an emotional and exciting read. Em, Sutton and Daye were tough and strong characters. I felt for what Em went through in Book 1 but to see her bounce back and find her inner strength I was just blown away. I was so peeved at Sutton in the beginning. For letting everyone down and just giving up on himself but once he found the light (Em) he was back alright with me! Ah I just loved the twists and suspense this book had. I had a feeling I knew where it was going to go after a certain scene. I can’t wait for Lane and Brynn. Thanks Ms. Crownover for this awesome read!
These Warner brothers.....
So... I want to start out by saying that I LOVED this book. At first it took me a little to get into... but once I was in it.... I was a goner. There are not many books I put my life on PAUSE for, this was one that I did. When we first met the brothers, we met Cyrus, and he was a whole lotta man. In this book we get to know Sutton... the ins and outs, the dirty and the clean. I love that this book has a certain realness to it... what with the addictions and such. I am so happy that Emrys did not run away again. She stuck to it. He was the first man who made her want to stick around. They both have darkness... but are also each other’s lights. I could not put this book down.... and am soooooooooo ready for Lane’s book
The chemistry between Sutton and Em is hot! After what happened to Sutton and Em they were always going to be linked. As much as Sutton tried to keep his distance, Em just wasn’t going to have it! This book kept me on my toes from the beginning! My emotions were all over the place. There was anger, sadness, happiness and horney! I feel that that Retreat should be read before this one. It helps to let you know what Sutton and Em went through. Sets up the story for Shelter. Jay once again wrote an amazing book, that I highly recommend. I was gifted a copy for an honest review.
