Description

Nathaniel is a magician's apprentice, taking his first lessons in the arts of magic. But when a devious hot-shot wizard named Simon Lovelace ruthlessly humiliates Nathaniel in front of his elders, Nathaniel decides to kick up his education a few notches and show Lovelace who's boss. With revenge on his mind, he summons the powerful djinni, Bartimaeus. But summoning Bartimaeus and controlling him are two different things entirely, and when Nathaniel sends the djinni out to steal Lovelace's greatest treasure, the Amulet of Samarkand, he finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of magical espionage, murder, and rebellion. Includes a preview chapter from The Golem's Eye, the second book in the series!

Hit me out of nowhere

Every now and then you read a book so different from the ordinary that it redefines your love for reading... That is this book. The whole series is incredible, but it is this first volume that cleans out the cobwebs and sets up the whole adventure. As a school teacher, I love that this book came to me as a student recommendation, and I have passed it on ever since. You will
I've this adventure!

Awesome

The first book in a series usually defines the series.
As soon as I was done with the first book, I wanted to read more this is NOT a waste of money

Pretty good

A creative and interesting storyline with great ancient mythology references sprinkled throughout this interesting book.

But if you haven't read it yet, I recommend reading Christopher Paolinis Inheritance series(starting with Eragon), before this book.

I didn't like the footnotes on the book, although it was not originally intended to be on an ereader.
