Winner of the Newbery Medal, this remarkably moving novel has impressed the hearts and minds of millions of readers.
Set in Mississippi at the height of the Depression, this is the story of one family's struggle to maintain their integrity, pride, and independence in the face of racism and social injustice. And it is also Cassie's story—Cassie Logan, an independent girl who discovers over the course of an important year why having land of their own is so crucial to the Logan family, even as she learns to draw strength from her own sense of dignity and self-respect.
* "[A] vivid story.... Entirely through its own internal development, the novel shows the rich inner rewards of black pride, love, and independence."—Booklist, starred review
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry!
This was a very intelligent book, it made me sorrowful for the people who weren't as fortunate as us back then, but it also made me smile for the most part. This book shows the hardships of life back in the 1600's and all through. But we've grown a lot from then.
I had to read this for school and it was just terrible I actually fell asleep
Roll Of Thunder
In the beginning of the book it is hard to understand what is going on, who the narrator is, and who each character is. As you go on in the story you begin to understand everything. In some parts of the story it can be boring and slow, but at the end of the book you understand the importance of all the events leading up to the ending. I really really enjoyed this book!
