Book 2, Kate Huntington Mysteries - A Kate Huntington Mystery, #2
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
No good deed goes unpunished! When Kate Huntington agrees to help Rob Franklin's elderly aunt with a problem, the "problem" ends up dead and Kate ends up in the middle of a police investigation.
As she and her friends wade through a brimming pool of suspects—some of whom have secrets they would prefer stay buried—Kate finds it hard to deny her growing attraction to another party in the investigation. But it's too soon; she is still grieving for her beloved Eddie. Then Rob surprises everyone when his reaction to this potential romance is both intense and negative. Is he just trying to keep his friend from getting hurt, or could he possibly be jealous?
Meanwhile the elderly residents of the retirement community continue to die off, and not from natural causes. The question soon becomes not just whether they will find the killer, but at what cost... Kate's friendship with Rob, or one of their lives?
Kate's second adventure in this series has a cozy mystery flavor, and a budding romance to spice things up. (This book is part of a series but is also designed to be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone.)
Ill Timed Entanglements
I can only say, this book must have been difficult to write. I say this because of the number of characters the author had to fit into the story to make it work and flow as smoothly as it did. With so many people to keep track of, I found myself, once/twice looking back a few pages to recall who someone was. But that is just me and my faulty short term memory.
A little romance and a few dead bodies are not subjects that usually live together well. But they do here, and very nicely so.
All in all, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next in this series. RET. LT.
This is only the second book in this series, and the author already displays a maturity and finesse in her writing that I only expect from a much, much more experienced writer.
She writes believable characters, people I would like to meet. The plot keeps me interested, the pace makes fir a snappy, page-turning read. She is meticulous in editing and proofing her work so there aren't the jarring, drop-you-out-of-the-story errors that are so prevalent in indie publications.
This book was flawless, and I highly recommend this author to anyone who likes to read.
