Annmric8 ,

Rellik was as dark of a monster as I had hoped him to be. I was hoping for more.

The book has many characters that are all trying to move forward in life. The past keeps weighing them down. The past reintroduces itself and makes it challenging to overcome. These people have an interlinking past that keeps them together.

The story is told from Ella and Rellik's POV. Ella was left at the age of four to be taken care of by her grandmother. When her grandmother died she was left alone to take care of herself. Ella continues to look for her mother. Rellik misses Katie. Rellik is in a band and travels to clubs to perform. The guys in the band all have a past that they too are running and hiding from.
The story is interesting and different from what I've read before, but it's still missing an element that makes it compelling. Rellik and Ella are likable characters, but nothing too compelling. The story flows, but not at the dark pace I was hoping for. Rellik has not done anything to warrant the name "killer/rellik". Having Ella look like Katie is disappointing. I wanted Rellik to like Ella for who she was and not for the reminder of someone from his past.
I'm still having a hard time believing Ryder/Rellik is a monster. The words are written but not yet believable. Nothing written yet has warranted this monster persona.
What these two are doing takes a lot of trust and I'm having a hard time understanding where the trust was earned.
Ok I've reach the half way mark and it's finally making sense. There's a connection I was not aware of. I love the plot twist. Now it's getting interesting. The search for more information is intriguing.
I'm still not convinced Ryder does not still see Ella as Katie, even with her saying the words.
Life choices have a way of mapping out our paths in life and suffering the consequences along the way, but it's all "what if" scenarios. We can only question this one path because it's the one that gave us these results. We can try and say what if this had happened differently would my life be better or the same. It's better to live life with no regrets and to try and not carry around burdens that are not ours to carry.
Interesting story plot, but them falling in love under these circumstances was not believable. It was ok, but not great. It fell short for me. Especially Katie's story.
