Book 9, Second Chances - A Second Chances Novel

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

L. P. Dover’s tantalizing Second Chances series scores once again as the Carolina Cougars’ infamous bad boy takes a shot at seducing a driven career woman who’s supposed to be out of bounds.

Trying to live down his very public indiscretions, Carolina Cougars kicker Jaxon Reed feels like the most hated man in the NFL. Fans and teammates alike treat him with the disrespect he figures he deserves. Unfortunately for them, Jaxon’s no easy target. As payback, he sets his sights on the quarterback’s sister: a sultry brunette who’s curvy, confident, and sexy as hell. But what begins as a revenge fling turns into so much more—a lesson in humanity, and in love.

Bristol Thomas doesn’t have time for games, especially those played by her brother’s Neanderthal teammates. A talented interior designer with lofty goals, she doesn’t know the first thing about football, or Jaxon—except that he’s exactly the type of man she usually avoids. But when his deep laugh and deeper kisses break through her walls, she becomes the target of a fan who’s obsessed with Jaxon. Now she needs to know that Jaxon has her back . . . because he already has her heart.

From Publishers Weekly

Nov 07, 2016 – Dover packs an emotional punch with her third contemporary Second Chances sports romance (after Defending Hayden), set in Charlotte, N.C. Pro football player Jaxon "Jax" Reed is adamant about not getting entangled in emotional relationships. Then he falls hard for interior designer Bristol Thomas, not realizing that she's the sister of his most-hated teammate. After a cheating football player breaks her heart, the last thing Bristol wants is a relationship with a pro athlete, so Jax hires her to decorate his house as a way of getting closer to her. Pressures mount on all sides: Jax's dying mother is thrilled that her commitment-phobic son has finally met his match, and a vicious woman with whom he had a one-night stand threatens to ruin the nascent relationship. At first, Jax is extremely hard to like; he's the stereotypical jerk athlete who sleeps with anything in a skirt and thinks he's God's gift to women. But his vulnerability soon begins to show, particularly with his love for his mother and his relationship with Bristol. Bristol is both sassy and sweet, and easy to relate to. Deft plotting and a hair-raising finale elevate this pulse-pounding tale.

The bad guy gets the girl

Jaxon Reed has a lot to atone for. He's the jerk on the team that has pulled some pretty awful stunts on his team mates because of jealousy. Just when you think he has finally learned his lesson, he decides to mess with the new quarterback on the team by getting involved with the QB's sister. What he wasn't expecting was to fall in love with her.

Jaxon was a pretty hard character to fall in love with. He has done some pretty mean things. While he seemed to try to be better, his jerkiness would still come out to play. It took until the last quarter of the book before I felt like I could even like his character. Bristol was a sweetheart and ultimately the reason Jaxon became a better man.

While this is book 8 in the series, it can be read on its own. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Easy and fun read

Jaxon is what everyone has come to expect as the “typical” professional football player bad boy. He has a bad rep, known as a bad boy and lady’s man. Going to get traded because his rep has fallen so hard, he plans and playing it safe...until Bristol.

Bristol is known as the untouchable good girl sister of one of Jaxon’s team mates and there is nothing Jaxon wants more than to get to “know” Bristol in every sense of the word.

Intended for Bristol is an insta-love contemporary sports romance. Predictable with really likeable characters that have heart. Easy and fun read with the HEA that we all love, Intended for Bristol provides a steamy romance that can warm up those cold winter nights.

Sports Romance!

I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books.

I have enjoyed reading all of the books in L. P. Dover’s Second Chances series and was excited to read INTENDED FOR BRISTOL. It is a story about Jaxon, a professional football player with the Carolina Cougars and Bristol, an interior designer. Jaxon is the bad boy of the team and his attitude and decisions have caused some problems in the past, although he is trying to make some changes and become a better person. Jaxon has a reputation with the ladies and has never been interested in a long term relationship, until he meets Bristol.

Bristol loves her job and spends most of her time working and leaves little time for dating. She dated a football player and he broke her heart so she doesn't want anything to do with athletes, especially football players. I liked Bristol, she is a nice person and at times, I wondered what she saw in Jaxon.

This story is told from both of their points of view, which I like because I can understand the motivation of both of the characters. Jaxon and Bristol are two people who try to find love and happiness together, although Jason's lies and other people try to keep them apart. The only problem I had with this story was connecting to Jaxon. I didn't like his attitude and his behavior, although I did admire him for trying to change. This is a fun and entertaining story and if you like sports romances, you will enjoy this one. I can't wait to read more books in this series about the guys on the Carolina Cougars football team.
