2017 RITA award winning author!
Calm. Cool. Collected. Gisele Whitby has perfected the art of illusion-her survival, after all, has depended upon it. Years ago, to escape an abusive husband, Gisele "disappeared." Now she must risk revealing her new identity to save another innocent girl from the same fate. But she needs a daring man for her scheme, and the rogue in question shows a remarkable talent . . . for shattering Gisele's carefully constructed facade and igniting her deepest desires.

This isn't the first time Jamie Montcrief has awakened naked and confused from a night of drinking. It is, however, the first time a stunningly beautiful woman offers him payment afterward. Gisele has a business proposition for him, a mission involving cunning thievery and a brazen rescue. How can he say no to a plot this dangerous . . . and a woman this delectable?

From Publishers Weekly

Oct 27, 2014 – A bitter revenge scheme provides the chance for new love in Bowen's promising debut historical. Gisele Whitby has the poor fortune to be married to Adam Le vire, the sadistic Marquess of Valence. To escape her husband, she fakes her own death in a terrible fire in 1812 London. Four years later, she's ready to get her revenge by discrediting the man who left her with physical and emotional scars. She hires handsome former cavalry officer James "Jamie" Montcrief, the bastard son of a duke, to help in her plot. A powerful attraction grows between Gisele and Jamie, but Gisele refuses to let her desire cloud her judgment or spoil her plans. Adam, desperate for cash, plans to marry innocent Lady Julia Hextall, daughter of the Earl of Boden. Gisele is as determined to stop the wedding as Levine is to see it through. Despite a slow start, when Bowen finally gets things moving, the pace is sure and swift. Fans of romance with a touch of suspense will enjoy the work of this new author.

A Brilliant Historical Romance!

My first book by Kelly Bowen and I’m so excited that I’ve “discovered” such a brilliant historical romance author! I can tell I’ve many hours of delightful, insightful reading ahead with her books and I will follow her releases diligently. In this story the author intertwines a passionate romance between Gisele and Jamie with the serious (but little talked about “back in the day”) issue of spousal abuse. The intertwining was done with chilling suspense and keen planning so that I was reading with a pounding heart and could not lift my eyes from the pages as I read this story in two nights. But it was worth losing sleep over…it was a truly refreshing, exciting story that I highly recommend. Thank you, Ms. Bowen for your writing!

Unexpectedly great

Not your usual formula romance. Well written, humorous, and great characters. I really enjoyed reading it.
