She’s always played it safe…
College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?
He’s always played around…
Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

Jockblocked (Gridiron, #2) by Jen Frederick
Jen Frederick scores a touchdown with Jockblocked the second book in the Gridiron Series! I loved this new adult contemporary sports romance. It takes place in the months after the Western State Warriors Football team won the national title. Linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson is pressured by his coach to convince the team’s starting quarterback, Ace Anderson, to play a different position on the team. Meanwhile, he discovers that the girl he has been pursuing, Lucy Washington, is Ace’s best friend.
If you are looking for a football romance with a lot of football action scenes, this is not the book, but you will get a book that has a lot of other aspects about being a college athlete. You will get glimpses into off season weight training and team dynamics. My son was the captain of his ice hockey team this past year, so I loved the Matty was offered the position of team captain. I appreciated that being a team captain was never on Matty’s radar. I love that he is committed to his team and realizes how he made life difficult for the previous team captain. The team’s coach was screaming abuse of power. Unfortunately, that is a common occurrence in college athletics.
Both Matt and Lucy are likable characters that grew throughout the novel. I like how they met. I like that Matty is not used to rejection but still pursues Lucy instead of taking on an easier conquest.
My dad and father-in-law both suffer(ed) from diabetes, so I empathized with Lucy. I love how Matty handles the discovery and looks out for her. He is also a very thoughtful gift giver.
Lucy is pre-law and on the mock trial team. I enjoyed this aspect of the story, especially the competition toward the end of the book. The team’s support is great.
This was the first book that I have read by Jen Frederick. It will not be my last. I was impressed with her writing style. I enjoyed her plot and character development. I love her content and believable real-life issues. All around this was a fantastic book.

Raw. Irresistible. Ravishing
Raw. Irresistible. Ravishing. Jock Blocked is one of those books that will capture your attention and heart before you realize what is happening. It will silently wrap its delectable passion around you and then seep unknowingly into your heart until you are completely overwhelmed and irrevocably head over heels in love with this story and its superb characters. Reading a Jen Frederick story is like having your own unique spa day coupled with a beautifully romantic evening with your significant other while being showered with a love so deep and lasting that you know you will never be the same again. Whatever you do, please don’t miss out!
Matthew can only see amazing things in his future. All he needs to do is to play his heart out, train like a mindless animal, and listen to his coach as if his life depends on it. He enjoys every bit of the adoration of his fellow students, sponsors, and fans. All of his needs and wants are offered even before he can voice them. There are no worries or concerns in his life until coach sends his peaceful, fun life into a wild tailspin. Out of nowhere, he is issued the command to take on more responsibility and cares than he wants to. If that’s not enough to deal with, fate hands him an angelic, feisty beauty that takes his breath away and awakens his slumbering heart. When he tries to ask her out, she does the impossible and flat out denies him. With his mind in utter disarray, he falls back to what he does best – he puts his entire being into wearing her down and convincing her to give him a chance. Will Lucy take a crazy and inconceivable risk in giving Matt a chance, or will she teach him that some risks aren’t worth it even if the reward would be like Heaven on Earth?
Lucy and Matt truly blew me away with their journey. It was wild, uncontrolled, and raw, but it was life in its purest form. Life cannot be planned and reformed into our perfect fantasy. I will give you points in trying, but good luck in making it stick. The stunning reality is that the complete surprise that life is proves to be the sandpaper that smoothes out our rough edges and wipes away the protection of childhood to allow us to shine brilliantly and offer our irreplaceable gifts and abilities to a world that would be sorely lacking without them. Watching Lucy and Matt step out of their comfort zones to discover who they really are was both heartbreaking and exhilarating! There is nothing like finding your place in the world and also opening your life and heart to those around you. You are never truly the same again, and that’s a good thing. Dare to become more and in the process watch how much your view of yourself and the world will change.
Jen Frederick is a marvelous gift and a magnificent author that has touched my heart and life in a way that I will feel for years to come. She is a beautiful human being and a marvelous crafter of words. I have enjoyed the few books from her that I have had the privilege to experience and enjoy. To read one of her books is to give up your heart at the beginning of each story and enjoy the thrilling and extraordinary rollercoaster that she takes you on. You will never regret a moment that you spend savoring her out of this world talent. I encourage every reader to pick up one of her books because you will never be the same again.
Matty and Lucy = SOULMATES
Absolutely loved Matty and Lucy's love story. I didn't think you could make me love a character more than Knox but i fell for Matty. His big heart and the way he cared for and loved Lucy was just breathtaking. I also loved the supporting characters. I laughed so much. Especially at the mock trial when most of the guys showed up with Matt to bring Lucy her insulin and they got in trouble for hooting and hollering at Lucy when they thought she did good on her presentation. Awesome read! Highly recommend it ❤️
