Joshua Glover escaped slavery in St. Louis, Missouri, only to be recaptured in Wisconsin in 1854. Defying the Fugitive Slave Act, abolitionists including Sherman Booth aided Joshua’s escape via the Underground Railroad. These actions would have enormous consequences for men and women of every color, in Wisconsin and the United States.
