Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).
Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that's been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family's life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.
Gracie Richards wasn't born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it's all she knows anymore. At least here people don't care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive...until a man who clearly doesn't belong shows up on her doorstep.
Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department's dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.
Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker's reputation as one of today's most talented new voices in romantic suspense.
Twisty turny goodness!
Having thoroughly enjoyed Until It Fades, my first and only read by the author (I am working at getting to the ones on my TBR, I promise), I was more than ready to dive into another book of hers and when I saw the cover to Keep Her Safe (which is absolutely beautiful) and found out it was romantic suspense, I knew I’d find a way to get my hands on it in one way or another and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I didn’t devour it, it wasn’t that kind of read for me, it was more of a...let me put this down so I can digest what I just read and see if I can put a few pieces together and then get back to it kind of read, because I ALWAYS went back to it. I loved how each piece of the puzzle was presented, worked out and then put together in the end and though Noah and Gracie drove me just a little cray cray, I ended up loving them in the end.
Noah and Gracie are two sides of a coin. One doesn’t trust easily while the other does and both had a tendency to take things to the extreme. There were quite a few times when I wanted to yell at them both for their actions (but didn’t because doing that at work would make me look crazier than my co-workers think I am) but I understood why. They are products of their upbringing and it has colored their view of the world around them. Both are stubborn in their own ways and yet have good hearts that only want the truth to come out, even if it destroys them.
Their romance is a slow burning one especially since the one link they have is a tenuous one. Trust takes a while to build between them, but as they work together towards finding the truth behind what happened to Gracie’s dad, they become more than just co-amatuer detectives, they become friends, allies and more and I really liked where they were at in their relationship when everything was said and done.
As I said in the beginning, I didn’t devour Keep Her Safe. I did put it down, but it was so I could process everything that the author was throwing our way, especially in the beginning. The crumbs did exactly what they were meant to, be bait and I was hooked. I kept looking at everything and everyone as a suspect and tried to see how it all could fit together. I did put a few of the pieces together before they were explained, but there were a few that surprised me and yet it all made perfect sense in the end.
Keep Her Safe was another hit for me. The characters were well written and I enjoyed the multiple 1st person POV’s and what they brought to the story. I also liked how everything felt real from the motives behind each characters actions and reactions, to how everything played out in the end. So, if you like a good slow burn romantic suspense whose conclusion will leave you satisfied, then pick this one up!

An addictive, intriguing and mysterious read!
Grace Richards once had it all, a doting father, a supportive mother and a home in a nice neighborhood. It was stolen from her in what appeared to be a drug deal gone bad. Now, 14 years later, with little memory of that former life, she’s living in a trailer park with her drug-addicted mother working two jobs to survive.
Noah Marshall lives a privileged life in a nice suburb where he is an investigative analyst in the District Attorney’s office. He remembers Abe Wilkes as a good, selfless man, one who helped raise him despite not being his father. 14 years later, Noah still can’t reconcile the images in his head with what he’s been told.
When Noah’s mother dies, he gets caught in the middle of the turmoil when his mother tasks him delivering a package to Abe’s daughter and wife. This would set into motion Noah and Grace discovering just how far corruption and scandal run in the city of Austin.
I loved how strong and resilient Grace was, despite her circumstances, she was determined to rise above. She wouldn’t be used or taken advantage of. It was her determination and strength that helped her in the fight to clear her father’s name.
I admired Noah’s strength as well. He had choices to make and none of them easy. He followed his morals despite the fact that doing so would mean hurting someone he loved.
Together these two learned to trust and lean on one another. Thereby solidifying their friendship and budding romantic relationship.
‘Keep Her Safe’ was suspense with a side of romance! It is this side of Tucker that I love. I look forward to reading more books like this from her!
I’ve been a fan of K.A. Tucker for a while now, but after reading Keep Her Safe, it’s brought my fangirling to an entirely new level. It is so unlike anything I have come across from her, but everything I adore about a fantastic read. This standalone novel was heavy on the suspense mixed with the perfect amount of romance, resulting in my favorite read of the year thus far. With superb writing, interesting characters, and a plotline that left me guessing at every turn, I could not put the book down and am honestly still left with my jaw on the floor.
“But she’s got a haunted gaze in her eyes, the kind you get when life has disappointed you over and over again, when you’ve seen and suffered.”
Keep Her Safe is one of those books that is ridiculously difficult to review. Each reader needs to experience it for him/herself in order to get the full effect and appreciate it to the fullest extent. There are so many twists and turns that even when I thought I knew what to expect, it was never quite what it seemed. My only complaint about the novel was due to the pacing in the very beginning; it was a little bit slow given how quickly the rest read. However, once things picked up, house chores be damned because I could not put it down. I appreciated that it read almost like a puzzle, with most of the chapters being written in the present day point of view, but with glimpses of the past as well. Readers were given bits and pieces of information, never knowing where it would truly lead. Furthermore, Tucker infused the perfect amount of romance between Grace and Noah. It was such a natural, slow development that almost enhanced the suspense piece. While it felt important, it never overshadowed their own individual journeys. Tucker did such a fantastic job weaving all the elements together to result in such an amazing piece of art.
“I kiss her like I want her to pine over me. I kiss her like I want her to remember this moment in case we never have another chance.”
I honestly feel like this novel came at the perfect time. I had been aching for something different and unique to read, and Keep Her Safe fit the bill perfectly. It grabbed my attention and held fast until long after I turned that last page. The characters were so real, with genuine emotions and reactions to the things they were going through. The plot kept me guessing, even in the final five minutes of the book – which is not easy to accomplish. K.A. Tucker wrote the trifecta of everything I have come to love in books and definitely pulled me from my reading slump. I absolutely can’t wait to see what she comes up with next, but I hope there’s some more romantic suspense in her future!
