Korgi (Book 1)

Korgi - Sprouting Wings!

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

"If there was ever a true 'all-ages' book, this is it. Korgi hits every note perfectly, and can hook readers all across the spectrum with its tantalizing suspense and action.... The art is spectacular." -- Library Journal's Good Comics for Kids
Top Shelf is proud to announce the release of an all new, all-ages series of graphic novels, entitled Korgi. Christian Slade, a former Disney animator and currently full-time freelance illustrator, has brought to Top Shelf a gorgeously illustrated woodland fantasy about a young girl Ivy, her dog Sprout, and their amazing adventures in Korgi Hollow. In this first volume in the series, Ivy and Sprout discover some interesting things about themselves as they stray from their village and face danger for the first time. Perfect for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, Jeff Smith's Bone, or Andy Runton's Owly, Korgi is a charming all-ages epic that is sure to capture your heart.

From Publishers Weekly

May 03, 2007 – Enter Korgi Hollow, an utterly charming fantasy world brought to life by former Disney animator Slade in book one ofKorgi , an epic tale of the friendship between a young girl named Ivy and her dog, Sprout. Ivy and Sprout journey together through perils untold, facing many different foes along the way including dinosaurs, spiders and even a troll so big that he towers over houses. The friends always find their way through the troubles that ensnare them, never losing faith in each other. Like many other successful graphic novels published by Top Shelf, Korgi is silent, relying on Slade's illustrations to both tell the story of Ivy and Sprout and convey the emotions behind their adventures. Slade's illustrations are so expressive and full of life that the pages radiate the feelings of his characters, and the lack of dialogue is hardly noticed.Korgi is as intricately illustrated, rich and fully imagined as an animated film. The character of Sprout himself is adorable in the extreme. While there is some danger of overcuteness at points, few will mind being drawn into this touching, exciting story suitable for fantasy fans of all ages.

Customer Reviews

The illustrations are charming but this book needs a written story to go along with it!

Great book to interest those youngsters.

I'm a guy with a 5 1/2 year old daughter and I'm trying to get her interested in the world outside of pink and Disney. I'm also trying to get her hooked on reading and although she can not yet read she loves this book. She makes up the story herself and engages her imagination without ever having to read a word. Much better then those read it to me iPad books. There are no formal names so she can name the characters what she wants and she absolutely loves looking at the art. She asks lots of questions and the main character is a strong female role model. The best money I've spent in recent times. Highly recommended for anyone looking to get there kids into "reading" before they can read.
