One of Stanford's Best
While any new book by John Stanford can insure a pleasant evening of reading -- at least I always seem to stay up layer than planned to finish the newest one -- this one is truly exceptional. All of the characters are well drawn and developed, and the plot weaves and twists. Too often series books develop a sense of sameness that although comfortable leads to a little boredom upon finishing the latest saga.
Mad River has familiar characters but avoids that sameness. Even the conclusion of the book is unusual in its moral ambiguity.
What a great read. Edge of your seat plot and Virgil Flowers. What's not to love?
Just the right combination of police procedures, moral conundrums, character development, and hotel room sex. Sandford's knack of naturally interjecting funny scenes into the flow of the book always make me laugh. Like a 6'7" biker being the first person in Flowers' life to ever use the word defenestration in a complete sentence. I had to look it up!
