I sat on this book for five years, always promising myself I'd start reading it. After finally reading it, I understand why the procrastination and general indecisiveness permeated every facet of my life.
Regardless of whatever or whichever of Dr. Amen's books you choose to read, be sure this is close to the top of the list. His other books tend to focus on specifics of disordered brains. This one seems to cover it all.
I found this work replete with gratifying explanations of the many difficulties I've had all my life. It turns out I've been doing the mental version of pushing boulders up the North Face (you know... Yosemite?)
My life has gotten better than my ever-present, reduced expectations would have allowed me to imagine. And it promises to continue improving.
As if it couldn't get better, The Amen Solution website offers insight into the specifics of your own brain function that will prove very useful in identifying the direction in which your recovery lies. It's amazing how much easier it is to make good decisions when your brain is working with you.
No mumbo jumbo here. Pure science. And once revealed, it's a puzzle as to why this isn't common knowledge!
I've read the slam reviews of Dr. Amen's work. All I can say, without vandalizing the characters of his enemies, is this: if you aren't wondering, while reading his books, where to go to get hold of the things that will support repair of your brain, then you don't need Dr. Amen's information or are ill equipped to make good use of it.
