From USA Today bestselling author Willow Winters comes a heart-wrenching, edge-of-your-seat gripping, standalone, romantic suspense.
I should’ve known she would ruin me the moment I saw her.
Women like her are made to destroy men like me.
I couldn’t resist her though.
Given to me to start a war; I was too eager to accept.
But I didn’t know what she’d do to me. That she would change everything.
She sees through me in a way no one else ever has.
Her innocence and vulnerability make me weak for her and I hate it.
I know better than to give in to temptation.
A ruthless man doesn’t let a soul close to him.
A cold-hearted man doesn’t risk anything for anyone.
A powerful man with a beautiful woman at his mercy … he doesn’t fall for her.
Intense and worth reading
I warred with myself over how to rate this book so I took a step back and really examined it and you can see I did choose the full five stars. For the simple fact that it’s very well written and the dark scenes sort of emanate within while reading, it deserves all five stars. Merciless is an apt description.
This book skirts the very edge of the romance boundary, I would call it more of a psychological thriller versus anything romantic. It was gut wrenching to read, but in a good way. A way that made me feel and think and consider. By the time I reached the end of the book I am seeing more of the deeper reasons Carter chose to do what he did. For Carter to understand Aria and choose this particular method he would really have to love her in intense, existential way. That kind of love is romantic in its own twisted reality. It sort of ended in an odd place and I’m not sure what to make of that, however I’m glad that the story is continuing for another full book because the characters desperately need it. Dark, gritty, and full of themes that may make some uncomfortable yet still something worth reading. It’s worth exploring this intensely unconventional world that Willow Winters has created.
Emotional and hard to put down!
Carter and Aria's story will leave you absolutely speechless! Willow takes you through a plethora of emotions with this book. You can't help but to love Carter by books end! You'll be on the edge of your seat throughout and begging for more! This is by far my favorite book of Willows and she never disappoints.
A must read
I’ve loved Willow Winters writing for some time now. The plots always seem to flow and the characters have so much depth that I get lost in the stories and time seems to stand still. This book is no different in thos aspects but now she has some really deep darkness thrown in. I think if you read Possessive and met the Cross family this story may flow a little better. Carter and Aria’s story is not pretty. It is dark and twisted. It is complex and flowing. It is a definite must read.
