My Life with Deth

Discovering Meaning in a Life of Rock & Roll

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

One of the hardest headbangers of heavy metal shares his uplifting and empowering memoir about overcoming addiction and discovering a life of faith.

In My Life with Deth, cofounder and bassist of Megadeth David Ellefson reveals the behind-the-scenes details of life in one of the world’s most popular heavy metal bands. If you’re looking for eye-opening revelations, they’re here, including the drug habits that brought the band members to their knees.

But My Life with Deth is far more than just another memoir of debauchery. Ellefson also shares the story of his faith journey, which began when he decided his only choice for survival was to get free from his addiction.

Whether religious or not, you’ll be enthralled and inspired by this tell-all book on discovering meaning in a life of rock and roll. You’ll find insightful comments from some of the biggest names in heavy metal, along with universal life lessons. With a delicate balance between humor and earnestness, anyone “can appreciate Ellefson’s unpretentious tone and the delightful irony of a serious Christian who helped define seriously heavy metal music” (Publisher’s Weekly).

From Publishers Weekly

Sep 02, 2013 – Ellefson is the founding bass guitarist of the multimillion-copy selling metal band Megadeth. He is also studying to be a Lutheran pastor and is the son of a Minnesota farmer. How all that hangs together and it does is the subject of his memoir, co-written with English music journalist McIver. Ellefson wanted to be a rock star from his youth and had the talent and drive to succeed, rising to fame in the 1980s, drug-fueled until he became clean in 1990. It s clear that despite years of dangerous excess, Ellefson is basically a driven businessman and salt-of-the-earth Minnesota Lutheran, a chip off his farmer dad s block. Metal music fans will find this a fascinating backstage read; those outside that circle will tune out some of the discography detail. Yet everyone can appreciate Ellefson s unpretentious tone and the delightful irony of a serious Christian who helped define seriously heavy metal music.

My Life with Deth

.....very honest book from a true ROCK STAR !!!! A great read !!!!

Mega David

This book is for any metal head as well as a great faith book. Any Christian or some one looking for a spiritual break thru, this is a must read. Thank you David for sharing your testimony.

Decent but less back slapping would have been good

Having just read Dave Mustaine's book and knowing that he can at times be fairly opinionated I wanted to read this book to get a different perspective on how a lot of stuff went down in Megadeth.

This book achieves that on some level but it's obvious Ellefson has made a conscious effort to tame down the sequence of events or revelation of personal feelings to preserve his relationship with Mustaine who was quite a bit less forgiving in his own bio.

This was certainly still an enjoyable read but I could have done without all the kiss butt quotes from all his friends. Stuff like that belongs at the front of the book to help sell books, not throughout where it was distracting and sometimes irrelevant.
