Navy SEAL Dogs

My Tale of Training Canines for Combat

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Before there was Max, there was Mike. A true story much like the touching movie, Navy SEAL Dogs explores the incomparable relationship between trainer and military dog.

From the author of Team Dog, Trident K9 Warriors gave readers an inside look at the Navy SEAL teams' elite K9 warriors-who they are, how they are trained, and the extreme missions they undertake to save lives. From detecting explosives to eliminating the bad guys, these powerful dogs are also some of the smartest and highest skilled working animals on the planet. Mike Ritland's job is to train them.

This special edition re-telling presents the dramatic tale of how Ritland discovered his passion and grew up to become the trainer of the nation's most elite military working dogs. Ritland was a smaller-than-average kid who was often picked-on at school-which led him to spend more time with dogs at a young age. After graduating BUD/S training-the toughest military training in the world-to become a SEAL, he was on combat deployment in Iraq when he saw a military working dog in action and instantly knew he'd found his true calling.

Ritland started his own company to train and supply working and protection dogs for the U.S. Government, Department of Defense, and other clients. He also started the Warrior Dog Foundation to help retired Special Operations dogs live long and happy lives after their service.

Navy SEAL Dogs is the true story of how Mike Ritland grew from a skinny, bullied child, to a member of our nation's most elite SEAL Teams, to the trainer of the world's most highly skilled K9 warriors.

From Publishers Weekly

Sep 23, 2013 – This engrossing if sometimes discursive YA adaptation of Ritland's Trident K9 Warriors draws from his multiple deployments as a Navy SEAL, as well as his training of dogs for military service. The former inspired the latter, and the book's most gripping passages are Ritland's reports of canine feats in high-tension situations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Though most descriptions are secondhand and involve Ritland's Navy SEAL peers, he successfully conveys a you-are-there sense of immediacy and urgency. Extensive quotations from participants in these military operations provide behind-the-scenes perspective and underscore the dogs' personalities and skills. Chapters detailing the training of military dogs and their handlers will be of greatest interest to dog lovers. Back matter includes a glossary of military terms and acronyms, as well as a capsule history of the roles dogs have played in various wars. Ages 13 up.

Navy SEAL Dogs by Mike Ritland

U.S. Navy SEAL, Mike Ritland delivers another phenomenal book! In his NY Best Seller, Trident K9 Warriors, he gave the reader a first time look into the world of SOF/MPC and the crucial role these Warrior K9's represent in our Military, more specifically, our Special Operation Forces & U.S. Navy SEALs. In Navy SEAL Dogs, he takes similar content but adapts the books contents to appease our young adult readers. Not only is this book top notch, the author is donating the proceeds to the Scholastic Book Fund. In a world where so few give back, it's touching that this Author, who served for his country and continues to care for our Warrior K9's, cares about our youths future as well! I see another Best Seller for Mr. Ritland.

It's OK

I was expecting this to be more like the book no easy day, I wish he went more into his own combat experiences and talked about his career. Like Mark Owen did in "No Easy Day"

Great book

Fascinating story of some of America's best warriors.
