Churchill, Manitoba, is “The Polar Bear Capital of the World,” and for one unforgettable “bear season,” Zac Unger, his wife, and his three children moved from Oakland, California, to make it their temporary home.
The author is just a little too smug, a bit too holier-than-thou, and his contempt for the well meaning tourists isn't veiled at all. He's contemptuous of us too, for reading a book instead of quitting our jobs and moving to Churchill like he did. Of course, in moving to Churchill he was doing his job - so maybe he should ease up on the superiority there!
On the other hand, he did do the work, dig into the extreme claims, and he did try to extract the truth from the hysteria. There was interesting information in this book, and valuable observations. I think I just don't like the guy who wrote it.
