Note to Self
The Discipline of Preaching to Yourself

We need good preaching—preaching that challenges us by God’s Word and brings the comfort that comes from God’s promises. Yet many of us rely solely on others to preach to us and are not benefitting from the kind of preaching that should be most consistent and personal—preaching to ourselves.
Note to Self is a practical introduction to this daily discipline. Pastor Joe Thorn delivers fifty brief, devotional chapters that model preaching the gospel to ourselves and its practical implications. Readers will be challenged by the book’s direct, personal exhortations to apply the law and the gospel to their own lives. Part of the Re:Lit series.
I love it when pastors are frank, honest, and really just deliver the truth without all the feel good fluff. This book is definitely in that style. It will challenge you, but is necessary in order to get through our pumped up pride at times. I'm glad the chapters were short, and was nice to spend five minutes a day reading the chapters and then thinking about it throughout the day. If you want a good devotional that truly helps with that question of "what does it really mean to live out the gospel?", but in short to the point chapters, get this book.
Not worth re reading
The book is a well rounded check up on the Christian life with a few points worth underlining. Normally I appreciate a bolder approach, but this book often felt more rude and insulting than convicting.
