When Jacob “Dax” Daxton returns home from war, he has to fight a new battle – the one to find his place in the world. The man who normally has a clear path to victory surrounded by brothers in combat is suddenly lost and alone. After meeting Beckett Ridge, a bearded tattoo artist, Dax’s journey begins winding down an unexpected path.
Still reeling from events that shook his foundation, Beck has never been part of anything meaningful. Now faced with responsibilities foreign and daunting, Dax’s broken spirit mends Beck in ways he never even knew he was destroyed.
As both struggle to find balance, they are healed by the comfort they find in one other. On the other side of chaos, they hope to find themselves On Solid Ground.
5:02 PM Amazing! ***6 Stars** Emotional, funny and sexy!
This is the first book I've read by Melissa Collins and I am now a forever fan. It's no secret that I love m/m books, and when On Solid Ground came across my invite list, something about it called to me. These two characters were just screaming at me to read their story. So, I took a chance and I have to say this book is one of my favorites of the year. Loved. It. Hard. Loved it so much that when I was done reading it, I started it over again. I'm having a hard time letting go of these men and this incredible story. Dax is a soldier with PTSD and Beckett is a sexy tattoo artist. They meet by chance when Dax wants to get a tattoo of a fallen brother. There's just something about Dax that calls to Beck. He's strong, attractive and just a tad vulnerable. Dax is immediately drawn to Beck but neither one knows that the other is gay. Their mutual discovery of each other is funny, sexy and emotional. Dax has an anxiety attack and Beck seems to be able to calm him with just a touch. They both have pasts they want to hide and unless they can open up to each other they are going to lose their only chance at true love. Dax and Beck are both hot, sexy, funny and sensitive and they have burrowed into my heart. Melissa is a wonderful writer; this story is beautifully written with dark, light and hilarious parts. It's a wonderful love story that made me cry, laugh and cry some more. I'm so glad that I was introduced to this author. Do not miss this amazing story!
But, hell, while I have the chance, I might as well stare my fill. He's built, but not in that overly bulky way. More like he takes really good care of himself, without going over the top. His legs are long and lean, but still very muscular. I wonder what they would look like around my waist.
Such is the life of a modern gay man, I guess. Sometimes I feel unless a man is wearing a**less chaps at a gay bar, there's no way to tell for certain he's gay. And even the a**less chaps aren't always a dead giveaway.
From the first moment I met him, I was drawn to him on a physical level. I can't lie and say he hadn't been the f***ing hottest man I'd laid my eyes - or my hands - on in quite some time.
"Hot tattoo man, huh? Not terribly creative, but I'll take it." Beck laughs. Leaning against my body, he whispers into my ear, "Don’t worry. Around here, they call you sexy soldier boy."
"I like the new stubble. Trying to our-grow me?"
I chuckle. "Are you accusing me of beard envy?"
"It's not an accusation if it's true."
Love is Love!! You Will LOVE This Book!!
***I received this book from the author for an honest review***
This was my very first M/M romance story and at first I was skeptical wether or not I would enjoy it, but when I read the synopsis I KNEW I HAD to read this book. It sounded too amazing for me to judge anything about it due to the fear of something new.
So going in with an open mind I started reading, and reading, and reading. I couldn't put it down!! I loved the characters as soon as I was introduced to them and quickly fell in love with their love! I felt everything they were feeling! I laughed, I cried, I smiled A LOT, and when it was over I was satisfied with the outcome. I found myself wishing there was more because I wasn't ready to leave these characters.
Melissa Collins does such an amazing job weaving the characters and their story into your heart that you look past gender and only see love. Love is love and I found myself getting lost in one of the most amazing and satisfying books I've read in a while!
If you've never read a M/M romance then this is one that you can start with, because Melissa is an amazing writer and she will ease you into it and make you fall in love with everything about this book!
This book is told in dual POV so you get both sides of this amazing story through the eyes of both of the sexy male leads! Release your doubts into the wind and get ready to fall in love, but I'm warning you, once you start reading, you don't want to put it down!!
Great job Melissa!! I look forward to more from these characters (hopefully) and especially more from you!
Heartwarming, Worth the read
On Solid Ground speaks to truth of the struggles and trials any romance no matter the gender combination(s). While the novel includes some sex scenes, they are not the focus. Instead, On Solid Ground focuses on the development of Dax and Beck's relationship in spite of life and how each chooses to deal with the obstacles at hand. While I can't speak specifically to a soldier's struggle with PTSD, I can say through experience the authors description of Dax's struggles rings true to PTSD itself.
