On the Line
Book 1, Milwaukee Dragons - A Milwaukee Dragons Novel
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
Is this man: A) a super-hot NFL player, B) the guy you’re sexting, or C) your new boss?
If you’re Carrie Herron, the answer is: D) all of the above. First, Carrie starts exchanging steamy text messages with the sexy single dad she meets in line at the grocery store. Then she lands a job as the live-in nanny for the daughter of the Milwaukee Dragons’ newest star. With any luck, she’ll be back on her financial feet before the next cosplay convention rolls around. But when Carrie shows up for work and realizes that her new boss is the guilty pleasure in her phone, she has no choice but to try to keep things professional. Oh, how would Poison Ivy handle a temptation like Seth Chamberlain?
After getting traded from Houston to Milwaukee, Seth’s having a tough time keeping his head in the game, let alone making sure that his daughter is fitting in. So if the only nanny that Madison will tolerate is a grown woman who likes comic books even more than she does . . . well, so be it. Too bad the nanny is also the gorgeous redhead Seth’s been flirting with all this time. But with Carrie’s knowing glances and kissable lips driving him wild, Seth must decide whether he’s ready to put everything on the line.
Carrie & Seth
On her way to her brother's to do laundry, Carrie stops by the local grocery store where she realizes she's forgotten her wallet. When the handsome man behind her offers to buy her groceries, she's immediately smitten. He's kind and so cute! When she spies women's hygiene products in his purchases, she's embarrassed to have been gawking at him. Seth explains the items are for his teenage daughter, not wife. Carrie can't in good conscience allow him to take his purchases to his daughter as they are not appropriate for a teen with her first period. She helps him choose something more appropriate and they end up exchanging phone numbers so she can pay him back.
Carrie, having been laid off as a science teacher, needs a job and a home. She's been informed her landlord sold her place and she has to be out ASAP! Not really wanting to crash with her brother, Carrie seeks his advice. He knows of a guy who needs a nanny and can put in a good word for her. It's not exactly teaching, but it will provide her a home and money. In the meantime, she continues texting "grocery guy" and they promise to go on a date, Until....
Carrie shows up for her interview as a nanny and is shocked when "grocery guy-Seth" opens the door. Although their chemistry is undeniable, they agree to keep their realationship professional,,,until they can't. When Seth's daughter finds out, she runs away. Seth's world crumbles as he's always said his daughter is the most important thing in his life, even more so than football. He lashes out at Carrie and destroys her heart in the process.
This was the first Liz Lincoln novel I've read. It won't be the last! I loved how Carrie was able to bring Seth's daughter out of her shell. She was moody and disrectful, but Carrie was able to find something in common with her and build on it. I also enjoyed Carrie's costume of Poison Ivy!!! It was super sweet when Seth bought Carrie a new "Poison Ivy" corset. As a single person myself, I struggle at times with balancing my wants vs my kiddo's. Seth struggles with this and it's his ultimate undoing.....I read a gifted copy and all options stated are my own.
Great new series!
This first book in the Milwaukee Dragons series was the ultimate slow burn!!
Seth was recently traded to Milwaukee and, as a single dad, is trying to juggle his new team and his 12 year-old daughter. A chance meeting with Carrie leads to flirty texts and the possibility of more until she shows up to interview to be his daughter's nanny. Carrie needs a job more than she needs a relationship with this insanely attractive man. They both want to do the right thing and stay away from each other but the chemistry and attraction is undeniable.
I loved that Seth was so devoted to making his daughter happy. I like Carrie but I felt like she didn't have a direction and maybe that's why she never got any of the jobs she applied for. I like that these two didn't just jump in and ignore the potential consequences of them getting together but the slow burn seemed to drag a bit toward the end. This is my first book by this author but I'm definitely going to be picking up the next book in this series!!
*This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*
I really enjoyed this book... The first for my by this author and can't wait to continue the series.
Seth Chamberlain: single dad who's a professional football player,
Carrie Heron: science teacher who is into comics and cosplay.
This story although I feel like we need more of Seth and Carrie as if they have more to tell; even an epilogue would have given something more, a closing of sorts however, I would definitely still recommend this. Well-written with characters you can connect to. I couldn't put this down; didn't want it to end and finished it in one sitting.
Two people who meet at the grocery store - a single dad shopping for his twelve year old daughter and an unemployed science teacher currently down on her luck. They make a connection and start a sequence of events that neither expected.
Then a turn/twist as they realize who the other is and why everything that they have been looking forward to and want; the connection that can't go any further.
The sexual tension between these two is everything at times and when they can no longer separate the personal and the professional are the risks they are about to take worth it?
Dive in and read the story of Seth and Carrie you will not be disappointed.!
