Playing Hurt

Book 7, Aces Hockey - An Aces Hockey Novel

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

He’s playing hurt. She’s laying low. And they’re both flirting with disaster.
“Kelly Jamieson is my go-to author for hockey romance.”—Jami Davenport
Chase: The last thing I’d ever want to do is let my team down. After overcoming my bad-boy reputation, I was dominating on the ice. But things aren’t going so well this season, and even my parents think I’m partying again. Now I’m really worried about my career. The only bright spot in my life is the Twitter flirtation I’ve struck up with pop princess Jordyn Banks. Turns out she’s a huge hockey fan—and she’s willing to wager a date on her favorite team. . . .
Jordyn: Even though I’m an L.A. fan now, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Aces, since I grew up in Chicago. Then I lose a bet to Chase Hartman, and suddenly I’m up close and personal with a pro athlete who’s anything but soft. Not only is Chase the hottest guy I’ve ever met, he’s secretly super sweet. As if I had time for a relationship . . . yeah, right. But when I suddenly have nothing but time on my hands, he’s the only one who understands. Now, with both of our careers at stake, Chase is tempting me to put my heart on the line too.

From Publishers Weekly

Jun 04, 2018 – Jamieson's skimpy sixth Aces Hockey contemporary (after Slap Shot) focuses on veteran player Chase Hartman, who's rehabbing both his party-boy image and a wrist injury that is badly affecting his play. During his downtime, he strikes up a Twitter flirtation with pop star Jordyn Banks, betting a date on the outcome of a rival's game. Despite the challenges of lining up their schedules between Chicago and Los Angeles, Chase and Jordyn manage to develop a relationship out of the spotlight. When they both face career-ending surgeries, their differing coping strategies test their relationship to its breaking point. Secondary characters are little more than cameos, with previous Aces characters serving as shorthand for hockey content and celebrity name-dropping doing the same for Hollywood glamour. New readers may be disappointed by the lack of setting development beyond Chase and Jordyn, but the tight focus on the couple allows for emotional revelations that somewhat make up for the lack of depth elsewhere.

Two people at the peak of their very public careers find an unusual way to connect romantically. Chase, a hockey pro with the Chicago Aces has a celebrity crush on pop star Jordyn Banks. Jordyn who's from Chicago and a fan of hockey decides to follow Chase on Twitter prompting him to respond to her tweet. This starts a fun and flirtatious banter between the two.

This was a pretty cute story. Chase's infatuation with Jordyn was almost like what you would see with a teenage crush. Both characters are pretty smitten with each other. I like how the author gave us a lot of couple time with them while still being realistic to the struggles of life getting in their way.

This is a pretty low angst and safe read. I enjoyed this couple and didn't really mind the bumps they faced along the way. Both of them dealt with some hurt from their pasts that did get in the way few times but I never felt it was overdone.

Tons of Fun!

What a charming, warm, sexy gem of a novel. Full of laugh out loud moments, full of funny and dirty euphemisms, and tons of fun. Well written, with great characters, who live, breathe and jump off the page at you. I love a great Romance and this delivered from the beginning to the end.
Chase Hartman is a Chicago Aces’ Pro Hockey player who is a big fan of Pop Singer Jordyn Banks. Their love of Ice Hockey brings them together, through a tweet and a bet on a game. When these two meet sparks fly, and their chemistry is palpable and will make you breathless. Date by date they grow closer together. And as these two deal with their own injuries, their connection deepen and sizzles. But how will they make it work when past insecurities run deep? You will need to read to find out. Loved it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Woulda Coulda Shoulda

This is such a great series, however this book wasn't up there with the others. This is Chase and Jordyn's story. Chase, once a bit of a player now settled into his role with the Ace's and has a little girl crush thing going with pop star Jordyn. One day he tweets to her and she tweets back. Jordyn is from Chicago and is a hockey fan. Now living in California she roots for her home team, and the two banter back and forth on twitter until Chase purposes a wager on a game, a date- she agrees and she loses. They have a date, keeping a low profile as they're two public figures. Jordyn's been having a little scratchy throat off and on meanwhile Chase isn't performing on the ice. Turns out he's got a little problem with his wrist from an injury last season. Nothing to worry about he says. The relationship between the two develop and things are done and said and said and done. The puck hits the ice when Chase ignores his injury and that creates a problem between the two of them. Chase creates the problem.
This story for me lacked the real life character depth that the others had and it felt like I was sitting on a porch glider. Back and forth and not going anywhere. The rest of the series is fantastic, this one just fell short for me.
