Practical Technology for Music Education is intended to be an "idea manual" for music teachers as they attempt to use and apply technology to their pedagogy. The book examines all kinds of technology (including Android and Chromebook devices), but does focus on the power of Pads for music education. Dr. Russell writes from the perspective of a music teacher who has taught with personally purchased technology, district purchased teacher-only technology, and 1:1 technology at the secondary level. The concepts in the book, however, should be transferrable to any level and area of music education.
What's New in Version 1.11
Version 1.11 is now in portrait-only mode and provides updates for new technologies that have entered the market since the book was originally published in 2012 (including the Chromebook), the use of interactive widgets for websites, and overall corrections and additions to content. App lists are provided for all discussed platforms, although the mega iPad app list from v. 1.0 has been removed.
Dr. Russell is my "go-to" guy for all things about music technology. This book is a great resource for all educators. I would especially recommend this book for administrators looking for some insight on the music classroom as the content is very approachable.
