Prelude is a fiction that may be coming true for us all. In prose and some verse, interwoven with 100+ works of art, photography, and video, it envisions a technology that will turn our lives inside out. The technology: tiny drones the size of mosquitoes. As Prelude describes, such devices will come into everyone’s hands—individuals', businesses', governments’, etc. We will send them wherever we want, and see and hear what's there. And they will broadcast everywhere; any of us will be able to tune in (or hack in) to anyone else’s. Imagine such transparency.
Prelude helps us imagine that. It describes the tiny drones' arrival, and explores the consequences. Our senses of our selves, society, civilization, and world will be transformed. Our privacy, secrecy, intimacy, security, family life, community, government, commerce, jobs, education, entertainment, culture—all will change dramatically.
But we will adapt. Our fundamental nature will not change. On balance, we will neither gain nor lose. So say Prelude’s central characters, The Reverend Professor Henrietta A. (who is also Prelude’s fictional author/artist) and her companion, Vassal Squeezeshot, famed inventor of the tiny drones.
Prelude is the introductory volume of the Squeezeshot Saga, a creation of Marcus Parsons. The saga is available at the Squeezeshot(.org) website and, much of it, at this store.
