Book 7, The Walshes Series
This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.
Riley Walsh has spent a lifetime flying under the radar, but one woman is about to change everything for him.
Two lonely hearts.
Just once, Alex Emmerling would like to be someone's first choice.
She's strong-willed and spunky, but she's left picking up the pieces from her ex's lies and manipulations, and daydreaming about taking a scalpel to his s*****m.
Flying under the radar is what Riley Walsh does best.
He's laid-back and loyal, but he wants the most off-limits woman in his world, and nothing will ever make that a reality
An arrangement of mutual benefit.
Two months, four dates.
Five, if things go well.
Five at the most.
But possibly six.
Definitely no more than six dates.
Only the appearance of a romantic relationship is required, and they expect nothing more from their time together. There will be none of those benefits involved.
One wild weekend.
After waking up in bed together—very naked and even more hungover—the terms and conditions of their arrangement no longer apply. Now they're faced with something riskier than exposing their fake relationship: letting go of the past and zipping up the future.
Some things have to fall apart before they can be put back together.
Holy Book Hangover Batman!
Oh so salty and sweet and I never wanted this book to end. If you're familiar with Kate Canterbary and The Walshes than there are certain things you expect with this series: witty conversations; moments that make you smile; moments that will break your heart (even if only for a short time); and hot sexy times, but with Riley's story I was expecting more and boy did it deliver.
From the first page I was hooked and there is so much to say, but I refuse to spoil this for anyone. His someone special is truly special and I don't think Kate could have written a better character. She is feisty and vulnerable and probably the most realistic Walsh series character to date.
Oh and Riley, oh my god Riley. He is everything, he's perfectly imperfect, and there is so much more to him than I could have ever imagined. He has learned well from his brothers. We find out he's not the only one who is a keeper of secrets. Questions are answered and a few new questions pop up. Lauren and Matt have always been my favorite and now Riley and his someone special have taken that spot. Get ready to check in with some of your favorites, actually get to meet some characters that have been mentioned before and get ready for a wild ride.
This is the 7th book in the Walsh saga. It's clearly Riley's book, but all the Walsh's and their significant others play significant roles. Riley Walsh is 30, coming into his own emotionally, professionally and socially. Ever competing against his successful siblings he's still living down his dubious past of wild sex, crazy parties and bad decisions. His image to family and friends is still the Immature man child who plays the field. So what's he to do when he finds a woman he wants to have? Even if she doesn't want him? He'll Fight for her. Riley is loyal, tender, a bit clumsy, talented and Hot. His special someone tends to believe the man child image and fights their attraction. Sparks fly, hilarious situations ensue and family dynamics prevail throughout this book. Preservation is spectacular, it pulls you in and keeps you mesmerized. You won't find a better book boyfriend or book to absorb you, anywhere.
Preservation- Riley's story
This book is part of a series and should be read after reading the other 6 to fully, completely understand the dynamics. Kate Canterbary is a gifted author who perfectly weaves together these stories for optimal reading pleasure. We have watched Riley interact with his siblings and his siblings significant others, each book we feel we get to know him more and start to feel like we know him. Then in the Spire a Riley bomb is dropped and we began to question our understanding of him. I had to go reread the series to catch all the breadcrumbs I had missed. Going into this book I was certain I was ready for anything and that first chapter proved I wasn't ready!!! Kate is a master at making sure her writing isn't predictable and that even though we'be had 6 books to get to know these Walsh members, you didn't really know enough. Just like real life, these characters are always evolving and growing and there's so much pleasure in being a part of it as a reader.
Riley Walsh is a wonderful human being with flaws and hang ups. He navigates through being the youngest in the family business (not the youngest in the family), he has feelings of being less than his older siblings, self doubt about his skills, and angst over his misplaced love interest. All while trying to be a supportive brother, a good uncle, and the best brother in law he can be. He needs someone who can see him through the class clown persona, past the coffee stains, and who ignores the perpetually unzipped pants. He needs someone strong in personality to hold up against his bigger than life family. And his happily ever after fits the bill. She's got the balls of his sister Shannon, the arrogance of his brother Patrick, the natural skills in her field as Andy, the no BS of Tiel, the compassion of Lauren and so much more that's uniquely her. She is the perfect foil to our man Riley.
If you haven't started this series yet, trust me you are missing out. If you are a Walsh fan already, buckle up and enjoy the ride. The twists and turns will excite you, the witty dialogue will entertain, the growth in characters will fill you with pride, the family interactions will fill your heart, you will cry, you will laugh, and you will fall more deeply in love.
