The Question of the Felonious Friend

Book 3, An Asperger's Mystery

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

"Is Richard Handy really my friend?"
It's been one year, two weeks, and three days since Samuel Hoenig opened the doors of Questions Answered. The personality traits of his Asperger's Syndrome help him maintain objectivity—a critical component of his business's continuing success.
But when Tyler Clayton, a young man who also has Asperger's, asks if a store clerk is truly his friend, Samuel, for the first time, can't bear to give an objective answer. It's a dicey situation that only gets worse when one of the key players ends up dead. Resolving to do the right thing, Samuel, with help from his associate Ms. Washburn, wades into the murky waters of friendship, and the answer he finds may be a revelation to himself most of all.
Praise:
"The investigation is entertaining, but the cleverness of this book is its treatment of the personality disorder, which manages to be funny and at the same time accurate and respectful."—Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine
"Samuel Hoenig...takes on a real puzzler in Copperman and Cohen's winning third Asperger's mystery."—Publishers Weekly
"The ways of the neurotypical continue to perplex this unusual protagonist, much to the delight of readers of all cognitive stripes."—Kirkus Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Aug 01, 2016 – Samuel Hoenig, proprietor of Questions Answered, a Piscataway, N.J., shop where one can have all sorts of questions answered, takes on a real puzzler in Copperman and Cohen's winning third Asperger's mystery (after 2015's The Question of the Unfamiliar Husband). Samuel's particular talent lies in his Asperger's syndrome, which causes him to be especially focused in his search for proper answers, but even he's challenged at first by Tyler Clayton's question, because Tyler also is on the autism spectrum and has some difficulty communicating. Tyler wants to know if store clerk Richard Handy is really his friend, but neither Samuel nor his employee, Janet Washburn, foresees the murder that's coming or that Tyler will be accused. Tyler's sister and brother, Sandy Clayton Webb and Mason Clayton, are somewhat helpful, but it's Samuel's orderly and methodical investigation, with help from his mother and Ms. Washburn, that leads to a shady enterprise, a surprising killer, and the answer to Tyler's question.
