Red Soil Through Our Fingers
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
A Mars colonist accepts a deal with a mining company to start a new life on humanity's off-world frontier. But idealism turns to unease when reality becomes darker than the fine print foretold. With his farm under bio-genetic attack and the most powerful player on the planet as an enemy, Mahela has no choice but to run... and expose economic slavery on an interplanetary scale.
Mahela, a tenant farmer for the Rekos-Breland Xenomaterials Corporation’s Hellas-Dao Colony on Mars, must make a dangerous deal and flee with information vital to the future of millions. The book explores the potentially dire human rights consequences of weak public space policy in an era of commercial expansion into space.
The author, Nalin A. Ratnayake, is a former aerospace research engineer for NASA. He is now a science teacher and science fiction writer living in Boston. His debut novel, “Red Soil Through Our Fingers”, is the result of his long-standing passion for spaceflight, combined with a strong desire to see humanity move in a more positive and just direction for all people.
Ratnayake has created an incredibly detailed vision of what life on Mars could be. You get a very vivid picture of the Martian landscape painted in words. His descriptive writing pays amazing attention to detail. It keeps the reader hungry for more and moves the book along at a perfect pace. In between the landscapes, buildings and "space", lies a story of social divides between some well defined characters.
Overall an amazing book. I can't wait to read what he comes up with next.
