Refugee Nation: A Radical Solution to the Global Refugee Crisis
Publisher Description
Only 5% of the 60 million refugees and displaced people around the world find a permanent home each year. Once someone is forced to leave their home, they are 50 times more likely to be trafficked, sexually assaulted, or die than settle in a safe and sustainable place. Despite the ever increasing humanitarian efforts to address their needs, the status quo is no longer acceptable. We propose a bold and radical solution - for the 60 million stateless people around the world, a state of their own.
“People think that humanitarians can clean up the mess. It's no longer possible. We have no capacities to pick up the pieces.” Antonio Guterres, UN High Commission for Refugees

Okay, but...
It’s not enough to create a nation to house all refugees and it doesn’t solve anything. They’d come from dozens of cultures, speak hundreds of different languages, and share very few institutions. How are they to self-organize to create departments of health, sanitation, agriculture, etc?
While re-homing people who have been forced to flee their homelands must be part of any solution to the individual plight of refugees, the true solution has to be found in preventing nations from reaching the state in which their peoples feel the need to flee for their own safety.
This book contributes little to nothing to a real solution.
