Riding the Short Bus

A Parent's Joy-Ride with Autism

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Riding the Short Bus honestly describes the heartbreak and humor (believe it or not) that comes with having an autistic child. Written by a human parent -- not a superhero -- for other overwhelmed parents, it's about the parents' wild ride. This is the book that you might be able give to grandparents or friends and say, “This is what we’re going through.” Find out how other parents have accepted autism, become more confident, and learned to appreciate the unique experience of being an autistic child’s parent.

Riding the Short Bus

This book is a very well written account of one parent’s experience with autism. The author openly recalls her thoughts, feelings and actions as she navigates an often bumpy road with two children on the Autism Spectrum. She recounts her own feelings, frustrations and moments of pride as she seeks help, prepares her kids for school and life and deals with the public’s often not too supportive reaction to their and her own outbursts. It’s touching and at times humorous, offering support and hope to anyone who may be living in a world with similar circumstances.

Singularly Informative and Humorous

This is one woman's strictly honest a blunt experience of the unexpected presence of Autism in her life. Autism is a difficult topic to look square in the eyes and Laurel does it in such a way that is not only informative, but surprisingly hilarious. I was impressed by her ability to Autism seem familiar to ANY reader. I have given this book to family friends and coworkers because these days, chances are that if you are not directly affected, you know someone that is. I suggest this book to ANYONE as it is not only enlightening, but also a simply touching and fun read. I enjoyed it immensely. Believe it or not, this is one ride on the short bus you won't want to miss!
