Rockers and Rollers

A Full-Throttle Memoir

Brian Johnson

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

By night, Brian Johnson sings in the biggest rock ’n’ roll band on the planet. But by day, AC/DC’s frontman drives balls to the wall. Cars and rock ’n’ roll—they were made for each other.

When he was a young boy growing up in a working-class English town, Brian developed what would become a lifelong passion for cars, trolling junkyards and even pretending to drive the family car. From there, he steamed up the windows of his old Mini Cooper as a teenager, spent untold time in hygienically challenged tour buses with helpful signs such as No Shitting Allowed. Shagging Expected, was chauffeured in leather-trimmed limos, and raced cars to a checkered flag. Featuring guest stars Cliff Williams, Malcolm and Angus Young, and many, many others, even Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rockers and Rollers is a tribute to Brian’s obsession with four wheels. By turns surprising, poignant, funny, and maybe a little bit bawdy, these are the stories of a man who drives as hard as he rocks.

Publishers Weekly Review

May 02, 2011 – It's surprisingly refreshing that Johnson's lively memoir basically has little to do with writing about life with AC/DC—it's really all about cars. The working-class singer was beginning a successful auto repair business when he joined AC/DC in 1980, and he still remains a gearhead at heart as well as an accomplished racecar driver and auto collector. In each of his more than 90 short and speedy chapters, Johnson offers personal vignettes and expert opinions about the many cars that he has loved and lost. You don't need to know anything about AC/DC to appreciate his funny and highly descriptive writing about everything from the Lotus Cortina Mk1 ("a brick with wheels") and the Citroen Maserati SM ("a beautiful creation that came straight from Hell") to the Rolls-Royce Phantom ("2.5 tons of hand-built sex, with a 7.2 BMW engine with twelve funnels of fun" and the Mini ("the Beatles of motorcars").

Rock on!

After hearing Brian on the Opie and Anthony radio show this week I immediately downloaded this book! It's a must read. The car photos are awesome too! And I'm not even a guy!

Honest and funny

Easy read here; small chapters make it feel like you're sitting at the bar telling old stories with a good friend. It reminded me of growing up Daddy's Girl, sitting on his lap at the poker table, listening to him tell stories just like these. And reminded me of a few of my own car stories. It was a '68 GTO....
