Rushing to Die

2, A Sorority Sisters Mystery - A Sorority Sisters Mystery

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

“We’ll be sisters ’til we die…”

In the second installment of Lindsay Emory’s Sorority Sisters Mystery series, chapter advisor Margot Blythe must expose a sorority row assassin … before she becomes the killer’s next target.

Three months into her tenure as the Sutton College Delta Beta chapter advisor, Margot Blythe has the sorority in tip-top shape, just in time for sorority rush. Snapping and stomping in perfect synchronization, everyone is hopeful that after this rush, Delta Beta’s reputation as “the murder house” will be forgotten.

Until a body is found in the Delta Beta backyard. Again. The woman is found wearing a Delta Beta shirt, which is troublesome enough; even more distressing, no one in the chapter recognizes her. Unwilling to let a minor inconvenience like potential murder spoil the social calendar, Margot gladly hands off the investigation to local police cutie Ty Hatfield, while the Delta Beta girls throw themselves into rush preparations.

But when another body is found, with the terrifying possibility of more to come, Margot does the only thing a responsible advisor can do and demands that rush be canceled, making enemies in every house on sorority row. When the resulting furor starts to get dirty, it’s up to Margot to uncover some nasty messes tucked away in the sorority closets—to save her sisters’ reputations, and their lives.

A witty, engrossing mystery for fans of Susan McBride.

Customer Reviews

fast paced and completely engaging

Margot is a college grad, hired on by her sorority to be a ‘rush guru’, helping her sisters at the Delta Beta house meet quotas, run a successful rush and stay within guidelines. While the last is a bit flexible in terms of adherence, Margot truly is one of those who bought into the whole soror lifestyle, snaps and songs included. Sutton College had three murders when Margot had first arrived, and while those are solved the new pledge class brings new stress, and two more bodies.

I loved Margot: she’s one of those overcaffeinated perky, organized, all for the Debs sort of woman: part cheerleader, part drill sergeant her asides (some of the girls call Ginnifer the Gineral while I prefer martinet) are hilariously funny and snarky, and while she mostly holds it together through her unkinder moments, when she does snap she is pointed and directly on.

The flirtation between Margot and Detective Ty Hatfield is cute: he’s always trying to feed her, usually unsuccessfully, even as he is wholly frustrated with her lack of wholehearted cooperation with his investigations. When you mix in a chapter advisor bought in for the ‘Moos’, a baby lion and chickens, the endless rounds of practice, decorating and a cable tv ‘reporter’ who is desperate for a name and notoriety spinning the ‘dangers’ of sorority life into the mix, the story never fails to drop hints, clues and a few red herrings.

With all of the drama happening in a span of about 10 days, the story is fast paced and completely engaging: and moves from one idea or potential suspect to another, one event or prep to another the possible suspects are brought forward and dismissed one by one until the end. A wonderfully fun read!

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
