Salvage Trouble

#1, Black Ocean

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Hitchhikers are trouble in any galaxy.

Carl Ramsey has a starship to run. Down on his luck, struggling to pay the cost of fuel, he's just looking for some quick, easy cash. While looting the wreck of passenger ship, they discover that one escape pod never ejected, and the passengers are still alive. A routine salvage job turns into a rescue mission, and a good deed never goes unpunished. With two refugees aboard, Captain Carl Ramsey finds that his ship, the Mobius, has a target painted on its hull. Someone is after the new passengers, and willing to stop at nothing to get them back.

With his ex-wife as pilot, a drunken mechanic, a predatory bodyguard, and an outcast wizard from the Convocation, what's a captain to do? Just get paid for the job, and try to keep everyone alive. That's all you can ever ask, really.

Salvage Trouble is the first mission of Black Ocean, a science fantasy series set in the 26th century. Do you wish there had been a second season of Firefly? Do you love the irreverent fun of Guardians of the Galaxy? Have you ever wondered how Star Wars would have turned out if Luke and Obi-wan had ditched the rebellion to become smugglers with Han and Chewie? Then Black Ocean is the series for you!

Pick up your copy of Salvage Trouble, and aim to misbehave with the crew of the Mobius.

Ship load of fun

Fun characters, interesting universe. Think I'll take a look at the next one.

Firefly, Farscape, and a little twist of a mystery

A good solid SciFi fantasy with lots of action. While the number of pages is fewer than 200, this book is packed tightly and by the end you will feel like you've got a great story. If you skip a couple pages you're going to need to go back because everything that is written is pertinent. Characters are filled out by their actions and interactions with others - no long monologues about awful parents and long lost military careers but you find these things out as things actually occur to make them pertinent, for example, in the middle of scrambling to fight pirates you find out that the captain who you already know flew and taught fighter pilot training also gets jitters about being the fighter pilot on his ship because he feels the pressure of all the lives aboard are resting on his skills, that the regular pilot REALLY doesn't like his hot dogging when he pilots because she's had the mechanic put in automatic safety restrictions, and that the mechanic knows where his bread is buttered because it only takes a minute to bypass the restrictions he installed.

Still to be discovered:
Is the nun really a nun?
Why are the people that the nun and the kid running from always only minutes behind them?
Is the ship ever going to make enough profit to keep flying and will they ever be able to sell the #*%!!% escape pod or will it become a permanent fixture in the cargo bay?
