Customer Reviews

Hard start and a kick-butt finish

I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my voluntary and independent review. In the beginning, I did not like Savage Deception. Nickie Savage and Duncan Reed clearly have history together which pre-dates this book. Likewise, each of them clearly has an undisclosed backstory. So much of the first few chapters were spent trying to figure out the protagonists, that I hardly registered the part about the sex crimes and the human trafficking ring. Finally, the author began to incorporate some background, and I began to enjoy the novel. I like Nickie and Duncan together - both are damaged beings who battle PTSD with courage and grace; they are kindred spirits as well as lovers, and formidable allies in their fight against criminals. I loved the detail in Ms. Wolfe's writing; she captures the subtle nuances in mood and behavior that lets us understand her characters' non-verbal communications. She keeps her plot details in line as she juxtaposes Nickie's past and the progress of the hunt for the missing kidnapped girls. Her dialogue sounds real. Even her secondary characters seem to come alive. By the end of the novel, I was completely won over
