When the author embarked on her extended vacation to the United Kingdom she promised to share her experiences with friends and family by posting photographs online. Moved by the beauty of the country and the richness of her experiences, she began to share her adventures through the written word as well. Her blogs soon gathered a captivated following, and so the seeds for this book were sown.
Initially conceived as a short, literature-inspired tour of Great Britain, Ms. Rothstein’s itinerary evolved into a three-month adventure of a lifetime. To her surprise and delight, the extended duration allowed for a deeper experience gained by slowing her pace and taking the time to let life happen.
In this volume, the author shares, vividly and humorously, accounts of the places she and her husband visited on their travels through Scotland. The inspiration she draws from her journey—as well as the breathtaking photographs—will motivate others to follow in her path. She also offers a thoughtful and practical guide to planning and organizing an extended trip, from how to set up an itinerary to packing a three-month wardrobe in a single suitcase.
Traveling at the speed of everyday life, Ms. Rothstein accomplishes something we all desire, but rarely achieve while on the road—making ourselves at home.
Cynthia Fletcher Rothstein was born in Portland, Maine, but set off on her first foreign adventure at the age of two months. She has lived in eight countries on three continents, and visited countless others. She has finally settled in Stuart, Florida, where she lives with her husband—when they’re not off exploring the world.

Just like being there & experiencing it all!
I am not able to travel myself but this book and its photos made it just like I was there with the author. For me, it is just like being there & experiencing it all, or better, because I get the insights, history, subtle humor, and enjoyment just like I was traveling with the author and her husband. A must for anyone thinking of or wishing that they could travel like the author. Her toolkit seems like it would be essential to any travel. Thanks!!!
It doesn’t take long to realize that this is one of the most complete travel guides written. Although it has been 30 years (Wow) since I was last in Scotland, this little book brings me right back. Mrs. Rothstein’s writing is wonderful with words she conveys the feeling of the land, climate, people and history of Scotland. Just what a travel guide should with beautiful pictures and videos that make you smile. I thought I knew how to prepare for travel but after reading this gem of a book with Cynthia’s guide for packing, preparing your home site and life on the road, I say this woman has combined Art and Science in 150 pages of fun. Look out Rick S!
Impressive first hand experiences - fun
I love this ebook. Filled with expressive stories of sites, people, culture, history, and things to do. Would easily make one believe that they were actually traveling with you. First hand observations and perspectives of many of the best sites to be seen around Scotland. Insightful entries many related to culture and history or the area. Gives one a clear view of the experiences of what it might be like to actually live there. I like the convenient hyperlinks to other related entries, related literature, etc. Extremely comprehensive advice for any travelers - either for extended, slow travel, or for quick trips.
